Somalis need to step up

They do. The typical person is also corrupt and will try to steal your land and engage in shady business practices. It is almost impossible to start/maintain a business there for a multitude of reasons: entitled lazy workers, government officials that want bribes, jealousy, lack of trust, random people who want to benefit, etc. You people have no idea about the realities of Somalia. It is among the poorest and the most corrupt for good reason. Try to start a nonprofit there and the locals will see idiots who should be exploited.

The biggest step to doing this is a mass translation of books into Af-Somali. Our people will be blessed with so much knowledge and these things will come naturally as people learn.

They need cultural fixing. They will actually call you stupid if you are in government and don't engage in corruption and don't steal money. They will call you "nacas" and "dhaandhaan". This is how they think. Only radical methods will change this.

Yep some aspects of our culture, way of life and mentality is holding us back. We are very xaasid amongst each other. We are far from the teachings of Islam. It’s getting worse every year. Our leader is on a plane 24/7 when he should be somewhere in Koonfur Galbeed helping the farms there by coming up with new initiatives to help improve food security. Weird society. Next president will be even more handicapped than the previous one.

Somali people don't even say "asalamu alaykum" anymore to random Somalis they see in areas without much Somali people. They do not care to give Somali hooyos rides while waiting at the bus stop in -15 degree weather. You have to think rationally now, not emotionally and not with pride. 99.9% of diaspora Somalis with important credentials and experience will not go back to Somalia; only those looking for second wives and deported individuals go back. It's less shameful to be conquered by the world's only superpower for some time than the current state of Somalia. Let's do the right thing; let's push for this approach. The first generation Somalis aren't even going back to Somalia anymore; they are either dying or they are now unhealthy and require western health care. You guys think their kids care about Somalia? Remittances will disappear. This is an emergency and it requires the Americans to take over.

And most of those “Americans” can be Somali Americans helping Somalia by contributing to the economy and her society.

You’re right not all Somalis wanted to go back home.

But Somalia needs the diasporas:

They are the right resource for the job.

I’m tried of seeing non-Somali going to Somalia and doing charity work (when some of them could be exploiting) it’s supposed to be us doing the project.

These people need to go Somalia. They haven’t been there that’s the problem. Corruption starts as soon as you land in the airport.

Corruption is very high amongst Somalia, that is true. There are prime reasons for it. Tribalism, Xenophobia, Lack of motivation in the young, and education. What we as a diaspora, if anyone is willing to open up Youth Academies funded abroad that are pro-Somali, pro-xamaali, and are low key about qabiil and the dangers of qabyalad.

Who will fund these? Definitely not the government of Somalia.

I was told by a woman that I and my luggage not go through security at the airport because we were "related". I could have been strapped with a bomb or I could have been smuggling khat. People in Somalia are nuts. The situation was so bad that I heard a foreign airline had to do security checks themselves in Somalia.

No it's not. Somalia is actually getting poorer. It's GDP per capita is shrinking every year. Remittances are drying up. There are zero opportunities for the Somali youth. 50% are 15 or younger and the population is exploding. Even bleeding heart, nacas Canada is cutting aid budgets. Game over. It's the end of the road.

You have to be firm and aggressive with the Somolions. You cannot be sweet and kind to them, which only works for other people. Somalis take the lovey-dovey crap as weakness. They only react to the gun or in this case, insults and being talked down to. There is hope for South Sudan because you come from a rational and understanding people; Somalis are anything but rational and understanding. It is in their culture and upbringing to be this way and its been like this for over a millenia. They only care about their immediate sub-clans (sometimes even further down than that) and do not care about the bigger picture. Most importantly, there is also a stalemate in the 35 year civil war. Somalis in Somalia/Djibouti exist today only because of aid and also remittances, thanks to the kindness of other countries that let them in. If this were any other country, I would never advise this but this is Somalia we are talking about.
Sounds like to me the exact approach solution is further balkanization of Somali states, If South Sudan that is "more rational" than Somalia is, and clannish culture that ever so thrives, there is no excuse for the nation state of all Somalis clans to exist today.

If South Sudan and North Sudan split, and South Sudan is more rational in your words, Somalia should be split up too.

Splitting won’t help. The clans that live next to each other will further divide amongst themselves and oppress each other.

We had sultanates that were a divide by 5 Somali clans, if they were your blood you wouldn’t hurt them and mistreat them. To me, anti-balkanizationism is nonsensical at least it would reduce the qabyalad by a large margin.

They will continue qabyaalad on a sub sub sub sub …. level. One family would stay in power resulting in other members of the same clan trying to cause chaos within the sultanate. Only force works on the Somalis. Italians managed to maamul the people nicely.

Nope, that is nonsense. Same clan families do not fight. Hawiye does not fight Hawiye, Nor Isaaq with Isaaq or D&M with D&M, they’re more likely to unionize with each other than to fight amongst themselves besides it would be very degenerative.

They do fight. Clans fight within sub sub sub level. Besides balkanisation on that level is not a smart idea because you don’t have enough man power to sustain and defend your self in the long run.

Hey dude, balkanization does not mean withdrawing relations like military, and what? There is national integrity and international law against the invasion of a sovereign nation.

Inter-family clan infighting is really unheard of, in my opinion. They marry within the tribe, who will they have left when they kill each other and do you think they would exactly do that?
