Sorry if I sound rude but there is a two fold grouping amongst Somalis, the Landheere (major clans of Somalia) and the langaab (the upstarts/smaller clans of Somalia) the Landheere are the absolute majority at the present moment and this grouping hasnβt practiced intermixing or mass adoption of foreign elements. They are seen as the representative group when you think of a Somali.
the langaab on the other hand are a motley crew of old Somali clans that lost standing, sedentary folk, and emancipated/foreign slaves who somalicised, the biracial swahilis of the coast who retained their Arab/Indian heritage and the like. They naturally exhibit a multitude of diverse appearances however they are a minority.
in the present day, all of these groups are considered to be Somalis, and they have all somalicised to a major degree, especially in the last few decades. This is a positive sign, and it points to a possible coalescing and moulding of a new and solid Somali identity which would be more powerful than the current one.
