Not really. Chubby/fat and light wasn't the beauty standard for the majority of Somali history. It was very recent and developed after the civil war. The way Somali women look in the West is far closer to the beauty standard pre-Civil War. Neither have we really adopted the Western idea of beauty.

Somalis in the west didn't adopt the western idea of beauty instead they held on the old standard of what being a qalanjo means. Somalis in Somalia are the ones who changed the beauty standard from tall, dark and feminine to obese, bleached and brown teeth. If anything diaspora somalis idea of beauty is the real somali beauty standard.
