They’re not a thing here yet but anyway, does anyone know what made the first generation chose taxi driving over trucking back then when the latter is more secured and has better potential for long term goals?

The prerequisites and work hours between those two are pretty much similiar (just a car license, day truck course and that’s it). I see Indians driving in double B’s to our depot and a lot of them can’t speak English properly other than telling us to look at the dockets so I can’t think of why the older generation didn’t take a job of $80K where you don’t need to talk over a job of picking people giving you $20 20 years ago.

Bro have you even watched the whole entire video that I posted? If you listen closely he was pretty much saying that the whole entire REASON that somali men chose trucking was for the amount of freedom they have n they could basically set their own hours if they decide to become owner-operators plus lets keep it round here being self-employed n making less is a lot better than being employed n making more cuz of the amount of leverage you gon have just saying

they refuse to invest any time or money in actually improving the their lives in the west and all they do is fantasize about moving back home and retiring.

They don't build anything that will lead to generational wealth, they don't go back to school, etc.

it's been 30 years since we started coming to the West and we are still living in the hood, working low-skilled jobs, and among the lowest earners in every city. Why? Cause nobody wants to make the necessary investments to make their lives better.

It is because we understand the value of our homeland.
