I have just finished reading The reliance of the traveller and i have to say that Somalis just really claim Shafi'i madhab, but are not really hard-core shafi'is and the marriage section of that book was really an eye opener for me.

You see the same thing with other muslim countries aswell tbh.

These points were the most interesting part for me.

Seems like there is no scholarly consensus, but the majority of scholars agree that Niqab/Veils are wajib

Niqab.jpg

The father or fathers father can compel the bride to marry her off to someone without her consent

This one surprised me the most and the hadith contradicts the prophet's last sermon

And lastly the wife is not obliged to serve the husband:francis:

@Samaalic Era @Cigaal @Cauli So it's obligatory for her to obey, but also not to obey? Bruh that sounds contradictory. she is obliged to obey me right? Then if i tell her to serve me she must obey innit? I'm so confused rn:hmm:

When it comes to obeying the husband, the Prophet pbuh said in a hadith that if a woman dies while her husband is pleased with her, she will be told to enter Jannah from any gate she wishes

"If a woman dies while her husband was pleased with her, she will enter into Paradise." (Ibn Majah)

This requires serving her husband as was the custom back then. The wives of the Prophet pbuh used to cook and clean for the Prophet pbuh.

According to my understanding the wife is only obliged to obey when it comes to sex according to the shafi'I madhab. Other stuff like cleaning, cooking are recommended but not obligatory on her part.

Imam Abu Ishaq al-Shirazi mentioned Al-Muhaddhab:

“A woman is not required obliged to serve her husband by baking, grinding flour, cooking, washing, or any other kind of service, because the marriage contract entails, for her part, only that she let him enjoy her sexually, and she is not obligated to do other than that.”

The rights of the husband are greater than the father. In Islam, it wajib to serve your parents. For the women, it is her husband. For the man, it is his parents

Now some scholars have said this is based on the customs of a region. And i don't know of any custom or culture wherein a wife refused to take care of house related duties and instead asked the man to do the chores. :ayaanswag:
In which culture does this happen? I am confused

Who was saying we need to ban the Niqab? I posted that to everyone who said Shafi'i madhab Niqab is not wajib
Yes that's why I also posted this

As for the evidences the shafi'I scholars use to justify their position regarding women not being obliged to cook or clean for the husband or their response for the hadiths you mentioned earlier then I'm not sure. Best to ask one is who is actually qualified :nvjpqts:

Yes ofcourse Cumdatul Saalik is one of my favourite books in the Madhab. It is amazing.

@Lum is an extremist Salafi fanatic. He isnt specialised to talk about the Shafici Madhab.

Niqab is not wajib according to the Madhab. Thats a Saudi cultural garment.
Niqab was worn in provinces of the Ottoman empire(hanafi) in places like Bosnia,Serbia and greece.

Even Bani Israil wore niqabs before the babylonian captivity
