Somaliland has managed to get its Social media accounts verified. Not that this matters but, doesn't this infringe on Somalia's Sovereignty?
The check mark badge automatically gives you credibility, isn't it against the verification rules of both Twitter and Facebook when it's a misleading fake country?
There's also the case of Taiwan but, both TW and FB are banned in China anyway so, it makes sense they let Taiwan feel like a real
country in retaliation for not being allowed to operate in China.
According to this article, they spent over $100k to verify their social media accounts. It doesn't cost money but, my guess is their initial attempts
were denied when the unknowing Ajnabi working for these social media giants stumbled across Somaliland's requests and then kept on rejecting them after doing a quick google search.
I remember hearing about something like this a while back, not sure if it's true. Perhaps, they got it done through some obscure shady middleman that got them verified?
If this is the case then they most likely got denied doing it themselves so this detour could justify the price tag.
What do you think? should they have verified accounts and mislead people around the world into thinking it's a real country?
