BREAKING: Somaliland presidential election results:
Faysal Ali Warabe (UCID): 4.7% of votes
Muse Bihi Abdi (Kulmiye): 55.1% of votes
Abdirahman Irro (Waddani): 40.7% of votes
Overall turnout: 80%
The presidential election results in 2017 came as shock for many especially in certain sections of SL communities. Who strongly expected a win from one of the 2 opposition parties UCID and wadani from Kulmiye's 8 year rule.
The first question is if Wadani won the election in 2017 would it create problems in saxhil province specifically in the port city of Berbera. as well as , the control of the port which is a sensitive topic to discuss given the historical nature. Since wadani represents a community of somaliland interests which has been clearly stipulated by the party members. is it likely to win an election without certain constituency votes?
The second question is that should there be political parties reforms that is qabil neutral so certain clans not be afraid or concerned of a political party based on clan affiliation. A political parties should be about representing ideas and taking on board concerns from diversified constituencies from all over the nation irrespective of what qabil communities they are from. How effective can a qabil neutral political system in Somaliland would look like and the benefits of that?
I think a diversified political party system would help create a form of national solidarity among communities all over somaliland irrespective of clan affiliation. In all honesty, someone would argue that had it not been for political parties in somaliland there would not be peace. Personally, the future for somaliland is very dark as political clan tensions appears to be rising.
