Somalia's oil

After doing some digging, here's what I found.

"According to 2D seismic conducted by TGS in 2014, there could be 30 billion barrels of crude across 15 blocks initially offered by Somalia's government."

""I think the potential is there for multiple tens of billions of barrels, recoverable, or even more over time," Anderson said. "Just the areas we are looking at would be in that range, in the upside case, and that is just in our blocks."

These two quotes are from the same article.

"According to seismic data processing company Spectrum, which acquired approximately 20,000 km of long-offset 2D seismic data offshore Somalia in 2015, there are strong indications of widespread distribution of good quality source rocks. Meanwhile, another subsurface data company, TGS, estimates un-risked resources for the Somali Basin could be around 30 billion barrels of oil. TGS has acquired more than 40,000 kilometres of 2D data, which covers the seven blocks on offer"

This is from a different article.

So long story short, 30billion barels of oils have been confirmed in Somalia in just 15 blocks so far. The ceo of one of the companies that did the seismic survey thinks that they think there's much more oil than what they have found so far. I read in some places, more than 100 billion barrels of Oil could be found.
They expect to start drilling in mid 2025.

Let's pray to God and ask him to give us a strong and corruption nationalist government that will negotiate top dollar for these oil reserves and then spend it on transforming the country. If we manage to do that, then we can develop and get out of poverty really fast and since our population is relatively small, we could even do this in a decade.

We're talking about trillions of dollars potentially, even if we see 30% of this money, assuming we extract all of it.

This doesn't include other resources like minerals, fisheries and farmlands. Somalia really has the potential to be rich.

We can eliminate poverty and gaajo by investing just a portion of that money in our farmlands and coasts for fishing. We can educate the entire country in the sciences, math and technology by investing some of that money and learn from the most developed countries in the world like Japan and the U.S. We can reduce infant mortality, and all mortality causes for both children and adults by building world class hospitals and learning from the best doctors in the world in how to run these hospitals. and after couple of decades, we would have a skilled work force ready to run every aspect of our country, and the country would be very developed once we get there. :mjhaps:

But there's the small matter of corruption and defeating alshabab, both of which I don't think will happen because of qabiil.
imagine killing each other and dying for some random awoowe darod and hawiye and isaq who didn't even exist according to science, when we can collectively enjoy all this wealth in our own country. oh allah please don't kill me until I enjoy some of this:urgh:

Oh God you gave us everything, please bestow upon us higher IQ as well!:tocry:

Also may Allah curse all of the men who were responsible for destroying the country because If they didn't, Somalia could have been at least a decent country by now and we would have grown up there instead of being in the west.

According to my little birdies they should be starting with only 7 blocks very soon, although I’m not sure if soon means this year or the next.

We have a population of like 10-15 million it shouldn't be that hard to take care of somalis back home

it's closer to 20 million but your point still stands. The biggest threat is corruption and mismanagement of this money. Just look at venezuela, they have even more oil than arab countries but they are broke and poor today because of corruption and bad governments.

If somalia does start to develop I'm curious about how we will manage our borders.

Since we are part of the EAC can random citizens from other east African countries just move to somalia?

Lets pray for an anti corrupt elite society that values the country's pride and commonfolk. We have so much potential it's unreal. There's possibly 100+billion barrels just offshore alone. Imagine how much we have onshore. Even with current market prices we could generate a trillion dollar GDP.

Lets just learn from the Arabs and not make the same mistake. We have to bring the best from the west to teach our people so they can effectively corner every sector in the country. Foreign investment should be very minimal whilst we start off.

Aren't they making the somali identification for that purpose. Those who are ethnic somalis will be able to get citizenship quicker and easier than outsiders. I don't know when they'll roll it out throughout the nation though but I know the IMF asked for it to happen.

I think they'll be able to work and live there but I don't think they'll be entitled to any of the oil money. That would be strictly for Somalis, but even then, I'd prefer training our Somali citizens to do any kinda job we need done, whether it be building stuff, inventing stuff or teaching etc..
I want to keep Somali as genetically homogenous as possible.

This could be a curse or a blessing. If there is good oil there- we could end up as Saudia of Africa or Nigeria where the corruption continues ! They too have oil!

Who's a better person to ask than you? At what point can you consider moving back?

I would first need to be assured by a strong Somalia military, a unified one single somalia govt or at least South Somalia excluding somaliland.

Somalia needs a strong military and a strong police.

I think it's different from those Somalis who were born in Somalia compared to those who were born and raised in the west. It's mostly the former who do consider moving back under improved conditions, but a significant of latter aren't as connected to their roots. The longer time that passes, the less likely you'll see diaspora Somali possibly returning.
