As someone who is interested in Horn politics I like to follow the politics of Kenya and Ethiopia.Following kenya's politics is as easy as watching a few Youtube segments and reading a couple of articles. Ethiopia on the other hand is a black box. If you don't read Amharic or Oromo, there is really no way to follow Ethiopia's politics to the same level you would Kenya's. There are many times more Somalis in Ethiopia than in Kenya, but Ethiopia is closed off to us politically because very few Somalis know Amharic or Oromo. We know so much more about how Kenya functions than we know about Ethiopia, this is a huge advantage for them. We do not understand Ethiopia as well as we should, and the language barrier is a big part of that.
