Somalians have this 'my mentality must be right and therefore it applies to all' and this mentality is actually not going to work in a world of differences and differences creates differing interests and policies. People do not have the same priority or objective or goals. It's like this, say I am an IT guy, as a Somali I can't fathom to accept another person down the street is not an IT guy and have the same goals as me in life.
They love to place their mentality and life upon others and not accept that NO the other person may have different path and priorities or goals to him. They don't even reach this stage of maturity in their mind which is very 68 IQ level.
PL for example has different priorities to other Somalis in history and even today. Their most important priority is GOBANIMO and being independent from foreign influence be it economically, militarily, politically. Not just foreign influence but also 'other tribe influence'. Can't we just accept this for PL? This is their whole history was like this. Their not going to change because you don't like that. They died protecting this all their history. Boqor Osman had a foreign policy department and he would send delegations to Italy to ensure their agreement was beneficial.
He would ensure he protected the 'trade route' and in return he got 'weapons'. There was nothing else to his agreement. What did Boqor Osman do with his weapons? Did he go around trying to conquer all Somalis? no he just protected his Border, territory, and integrity of the Majerten Clan. He wanted a Kingdom of sort and similar model to Oman where they are free from foreign meddling, political interference, economic embargos while being totally independent. I believe he had close relations to that state because they used to run 'Southern Somalia' using their Zanzibar Colony.
Sultan Keenadiid had different policy to Boqor Osman and wanted to extend the kingdom territory which is what caused the war between him and boqor osman who was only concerned with Majerten tribes-men. He didn't care for other clans to be in his kingdom. But Keenadiid wasn't happy with that policy it seems and launched a COUP and it failed and he fled the land only to return with 300 yemeni soldiers to begin his own kingdom outside of Hobyo and controlling Mudug-Galgaduud.
While Boqor Osman controlled Bari-Nugaal. Sultan of Makhir had his own territory the Warsangeli land. Now if all went to plan, it would've been highly likely these kingdoms would've united since they were all 'daarood and harti' and shared a common xeer. A common xeer allows for stability and peace and justice. This would've allowed them to create an administration because if there is peace you can build anything and their Xeer ensured peace was on the land. There is reports of Boqor Osman and Sultan of Makhir uniting their forces to stop the 'darawish' invasion into their territories. So as you can see these kingdoms worked together for their common good and common survival.
Would Keenadiid and Boqor Osman work together if Zanzibar invaded Either kingdom? possibly but only history will tell. However their was not threat at the time from Hawiye or Isaaq or Dir or any other clan in Somalia, because they were not an administration and had no structures beyond 'clan elders and different tribal laws' yes they had tribal laws or else you can't survive without some sort of law to keep the peace but they never went to the next stage to create a 'kingdom' or even a 'state'. This is why Sayid saw Isaaq as 'potential citizens' in his 'state' while Keenadiid saw 'Hawiye' as potential citizens in his state. They weren't seeking to 'slave' hawiye or Isaaq but saw them as 'state-less' at the time and wanted to use that manpower to support the sayid state or the boqor osman/keenadiid kingdom project.
Anyways the point is that is HISTORY. U need to know the history but u also need to know the culture of the people your dealing with before you make any blanket statements. There is no point applying western thinking into a somali context since the people are not westerners beyond some western thinking such as 'sciences' which is OBJECTIVE law and applies to all societies irrespective of culture. I don't mind the sciences being used to analyze Somalis, but not western cultural thought since their from farming societies and always were in a society based on 'land owners vs peasants' their was always a heirachy in their society and this is totally not applicable to an independent nomadic Somali who has his own wealth and doesn't need to report to anyone unlike the farming communities that requires negiotation between owner and labor.
