Somalia needs a Park Chung Hee esque president.

So South Korea in the span of 40-60 years went from a poverty state to being a first world country. This was in part thanks to the contributions of the Dictator Park Chung Hee who enacted fast policies to propel the economy, industry, and innovation. Alot of South Koreas major businesses were started during his time.

Somalia needs someone like this since they all seem to be lazy addicts who can only form cohesive thoughts and arguments on tribes and family lineage. They need an authority who forces them to work and stop being bums. Farmajo cannot do it since other countries seem to have managed to bribe him against the good of his own people.

You need people like me
I would say more similar to Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore. I agree, immense patriosm is needed for a successful president of Somalia to see past tribal influence in decision making.

I also think a bottom up approach is required ; when you get everything in order in one area (capital) all states will follow - its natural to gravitate towards success. Additionally, working towards western ideals is insanity in Somalia. For example, building a stadium or a national theatre looks great for us in the west , but for Somali’s back home, a farming factory or anything that creates 1000s of jobs is of better use. Industry specific job creation will lead to the businesses you mention.

Agreed, one of the first issues tackled in South Korea was farming and being able to provide enough food for the population. Somalia needs to start there after dealing with their terrorist situation.

Security, food stability and job creation

Employees will go from work to entrepreneurship creating even more jobs

football stadiums, theatres and all this extra fancy igu sawir projects should be left by the FGS as they will eventually be created by a booming private sector

imagine they put that money into co-op farms or fisheries industry

We need more of this type of threads instead of the crap posted here. Eliminating shabab terrorists and food/water security are the biggest issues right now. We need people to start farming and leave the nomadic lifestyle. Food/Water security and slowly leaving the geel behind will reduce clan skirmishes drastically.

There is a reason why the East Asian model of economic development is viable only in East Asia. South Korea has the highest average IQ of any country, and it is followed by China(Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan) and Japan. What happened in Korea was that it was at war from 1937 to 1953 and was left totally destroyed. It then began to slowly recover and reach levels of economic development commensurate with its average IQ. Korea is not rich today because of Park Chung Hee, it is rich because its people are naturally smarter than any other group of humans. Korea was always going to be rich as long as it had a market economy and political stability.

You cannot replicate this model of development in countries with average IQs 30 points lower. There is literally nothing for Somalia to learn from a place like Korea. We can however learn from what Kenya and Ethiopia have managed to do over the past 30 years.

Solar powered desalination plants too for villages at risk of drought or for all as there is a finite amount of drinking water available in Somalia, especially with Ethiopia near completion on their dam

Kenya is already doing this

Lol East Asians have been civilized for thousands of years.

Somalis need a brutal dictator who'll push them forward and purge them of their savage ways.

Unfortunately Somalis will never allow that to happen again.

I don't know a lot about the south korean economy, but singapore's economy was largely built off of manufacturing, and i think somalis could do the same.

The only thing standing in our way are exorbitant energy prices. Thankfully, Allah has blessed us with massive renewable energy potential. Once we find a way to harness it, there will be nothing standing between us and a manufacturing boom.

I made a thread about South Korea a couple of years ago. The video is well worth a watch.
The secret behind South Korea's economic success. From civil war to 1st world country in 50 years.
I watched this video about South Korea's economic success that someone here linked. They were like us after 1950. The country was coming out of a brutal war and everything was rubble. They were the poorest country in the world.

South Korea is the only country in the world to go from being an aid recipient to being an aid provider. It's a very inspiring video and I think Somalia can take lessons from it.

The first stage of their economic reformation was education. They made sure every boy and girl went to school even though the country was starving. This built up a skilled workforce that could develop the country.

That's where we are at right now. We must get free education in Somalia.

Another successful country, Botswana, did the same thing after independence. They bet everything on education and are now the wealthiest country in Africa.

Right now we have unqualified teachers and some families picking only the oldest boys to send to school because that's all they can afford in some regions and even worse in others.

We have to focus on education or the best we can hope for is to become a retarded country stuck in the middle income bracket like Brazil.

I agree the correct path has to be removal of terror and corruption -> education -> agriculture -> industry.

If we can get over our shitty tribes and work together under a great leader dont see why we cant accomplish these goals.

I think that the Somalia of today is comparable to Scandinavia 800 years ago. Mooryaans are basically modern day vikings. Now those vikings have become the wealthiest and least violent cadaans in the world.

don't forget leaders that aren't incompetent. somalia is too easy to rip off because they don't know how to negotiate. they'll sell everything for a shiny new hospital and a villa in turkey

It actually goes like this: education -> agriculture -> industry -> remove corruption.

You need opportunities first to redirect those opportunitist.

If the only cake in town is the government coffers don't expect them to change even with the most brutal persecution.
