Reading the Quran =/= literacy as there is no comprehension

I saw this on IG and thought I should share.

Less than 1 in 3 Somalis can read the Latin script.

This figure is fake news.

I think I saw reports stating that it was about 60-70% in Somaliland and Puntland.

Likely in Mogadishu the figures are also somewhat decent.

Only places where I imagine it is in the 30s % likely Bakool, Bay, and the Al-Shabaab towns.

Fake news. Somalia has a young population and the majority can read and write in Af Somaali and I would say 90% can read and write in Arabic.
