He might not in the first year.President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed (Farmaajo) has left huge shoes to fill for President Hassan Sheekh Mohamoud and any future president that is after him:
1. He consistently paid the salary of 36,000 security forces, civil servants, and parliamentarians. The current government that has taken office will have to maintain that record.
2. He worked with Turkey and others to rebuild the Somali security forces. This process shouldn't be reversed.
3. His government worked hard on the process that AMISOM/ATMIS will leave Somalia.
4. He stood tall against Kenyan and Emirati's bullying.
5. He paid the school fees of over 65,000 poor Somali students.
6. He pushed back against Halane dictations as they did everything they could to undermine his govt to the point where they were undermining his re-election bid.
7. He implemented many projects including the road between Mogadishu and Afgooye.
8. IMF and World Bank approved reforms were other achievements - many thanks to Finance Minister Abdirahman Beileh. Hopefully, President Hassan Sheekh Mohamud led government will retain him for that position.
9. The expulsion of mercenaries like Sahan (i.e, Matt Bryden and company), Nicholas Haysom, the Ugandan official in AMISOM, and others.
.. The list is long, but I wish well and success to President Hassan Sheekh Mohamud-led government. It is a Somali government and Somalia is our country after-all, so leaders go but the country remains!
That being said, knowing Somalis, it won't be long before they start undermining this new government, and clan card will always be the norm. Somalis will always work with Western officials in Halane, neighboring and other countries that are intervening in Somalia. This generation of Somali politicians will forever pursue narrow self interests to the determinant of Somali people.
