Somalia has the highest Windpower

This finding from trade.gov indicates a potential 30-45 gigawatts of wind energy, which is a substantial figure.
For perspective, 45 GW can power approximately 33.75 million homes based on the average US household consumption of roughly 1.33 kWh (may be more/less).

Somalia's priority is to get the fossil fuels going. We need industrialisation and cheap as chips electricity ASAP we don't have time for more experimental power sources

Do you really think 'clean' energy is and should be a priority for a country like Somalia?

The industrial revolution started in the 1700s in europe, using only fossil fuels. The concept of clean energy is relatively new. These countries have been blessed with CENTURIES of nearly unlimited access to cheap fuels which boosted their countries to where they are today. It is only now when they are devloped, wealthy and rich that they start to divest into cleaner forms of energy. (I admit its better for the planet by a very slight margin)

Why would you curse somalia with a high cost energy source that would take decades to start running? Why cant we find our own reserves of fossil fuels and use them, dont be sensationlized by media. Climate Change is a insignificant and small problem... and especially a country like somalia we havent contributed even 0.000000001% to it. Why do we care ?

Fossil fuels, (aside from nuclear) is the most rich and dense energy source. You are right energy should be a priority. Without energy you cant do anything. We need to invest in fossil fuels first, create massive power stations all across the country. Lets not worry about green energy for now, ESPECIALLY windpower,
the only useful green energy would be Dams along Jubba river and shabelle, aswell as Solar panels which are wayyyyyy cheaper and can power remote areas easily.

We need to invest in fossil first, then look into nuclear as the final level somalia has uranium reserves you know...

Throw out this mindset of clean energy. I really hope you dont have an alterior motive and your just a little to scared about fossil fuels and are persistent on 'clean' energy....

Fossil fuels is power, The next competent gov. must look into finding reserves and utlizing them for domestic supply.

Look at the GERD in ethiopia, Probably the biggest achievement in the horn and in the modern day, I actually admire that as a Somali person

There is really no excuse for every home in Somalia to not have electricity. Our nation is blessed with multiple energy sources both clean and fossil fuel. We need to work on our grid.

Fossil fuel will be extracted by 2025 after the oil and gas deal between Turkey and Somalia we will have fossil energy next year but don't underestimate Wind power energy Climate change is real and it has harsh impact globally that's why these wealthy nations are running back to clean energy even those who use fossils will get taxed by the percentage of pollution they produce it's the reason why Saudi Arabia is running towards Vision 2030 clean energy.

Somalia has so much steady wind & solar energy that it may be the country that needs the least amount of energy storage.

Somalia is possibly one of the few countries that can be entirely run on clean energy thanks to wind, solar and a small population. The only issue would be industries that require heat such as steel. A couple hundred windmills could power the entire countires electricity consumption at the moment (per captia comsumption is low). Around $4m per windmill so around $1B for a decent baseline for our grid.
