In the international community, Somaliland is under the jurisdiction of Somalia. The policy is now changing in Somalia. The best that Somaliland can hope for is a semi autonomous region.
Let's see if Somaliland can survive the next couple of years.

Despite what you like to believe, Ethiopia doesn't want an independent Somaliland. Not in a million years. Because this would lead to Ethiopian fragmentation, the Oromos, Afars and all other ethnicities would want independence. That's the biggest nightmare to Ethiopia. They might 'use' Somaliland to score political points against Mogadishu but don't ever think they will give you recognition. Not going to happen.

@NourUgaas People have made the same claims that Somaliland will collapse since 2008 and today Somaliland is stronger than ever and it's still getting stronger so in the next couple of years you'll just see a more prosperous version of Somaliland.

I don't think it's too late for SL to return to the fold and reconstitute the Somali republic.
Start with a state visit of Cheeseman to Hargeisa. Negotiate (better than the 60s) the federal status of SL, wherein we retain a lot of autonomy and we get to keep our territory and minorities

To make all this happen sxb is Somalia needs to look serious because right now the central government doesn't even control the outskirts of Mogadishu so they are currently a joke to Somaliland. We've been hearing the same crap about Somalia coming back for a while now and still no progress has been made so far on the centralization in southern Somalia. It's a bloody lawless zoo down there so Somaliland should focus on developing themselves instead, even without recognition.

I mean through international funding. End of the day it is the Somalia government that has access to majority of the aid and development grants destined for Somalia.
