Somalia comes with a double edged sword into the EAC. While challenges exist, this is undeniably significant for Somalia's future in a positive manner, in the long-term. As for the short term, there must be gradual integration, otherwise the economic shock on Somalia will be extensive:

We have our own foreign talent already we don’t have the infrastructure and security to host them. We have high skilled workers in the UK Canada Us that would love to return they just can’t because of the current instability. What can some high skilled workers from EAC offer that we couldn’t have gotten already if we had secured our borders and gotten rid of their foreign influence. We could’ve protected Somali businesses by banning imports from their nations and made the market more competitive. Instead we’re gonna consume their surplus and become reliant on them

Somali people are the best at business in Africa. They will dominate this union. Their businesses in and outside of Somalia will thrive. It might get so one sided that they expel Somalia from it.

And for those scared of Bantu dominance, there’s no way the noble descendants of sheikh ibn hebel will allow this. The only scenario is see happening is Bantus working as labourers in Somalia, which is beneficial for both.

And lastly, nations can withdraw from EAC or even be expelled. So don’t worry about this.

If I was running Somalia I would have offered free land to the Chinese to try to get them to settle. Would have been trivial for 1-2 million impoverished Chinese to have transformed Somalia's prospects in the 60s/70s. Could have been the Malaysia of Africa
