Somalia and a private city?

Guragon in India was left stunted due to a combination of inability and neglect from the bureaucracy which left private developers to support it.

It still faces many unresolved challenges, but its development is a good sign for the potential of private governance. Despite wholly inadequate government services, voluntary interaction was still able to coalesce into an economically productive, rapidly growing, and comparatively well-serviced city. There are other examples in Pakistan, Latin America, etc.

I think Somalia pooling enough resources and infrastructure to power an economy for 200k of our brightest from around the world would quickly outpace any city in the HoA in HDI within a decade. If it suceeds, it could be used as a vanguard for further development, and creating pockets of Somalia that are even at a Turkish/Balkan level of HDI would mean far more interaction with the diaspora.

One of the main reasons Gurgaon’s economy took off is its closeness to Delhi airport. It’s a 20 minute drive. Without major government spending on infrastructure, private sector led growth is very difficult.

The biggest issue with the country is there are a lot of interests against a functioning state. An entirely autonomous city that's safe, well planned, with more functional institutions will create better demand throughout the rest of Somalia for a better justice system, political system, etc. Just 1 pocket of Somalia thats at a Balkan level of development would have a huge impact on aligning incentives for various actors to see the bigger picture, but there needs to be that reference point first. It'd also mean far more diaspora involvement in the country instead of us mostly just assimilating into various host countries

Think Hong Kong-Mainland China, Singapore-Malaysia. Somalia really needs to create that sort of a symbiotic relationship. A place where Somalis just go to make money. In the long run, the tax revenue the FGS would get would outstrip any other investment they could make, so pooling all development projects into the city instead of infrastructure in the middle of nowhere would be justified. Finally, more cities of the like could be made if it succeeded.

See this video, it explains a lot of my thinking;

If a city like Hargeisa or Mogadishu develops quickly maybe other Qabils in other major cities will also want to replicate that development so they don’t look β€œlangaab” and weak. It’d be funny using their egos for the better

i thought qurba joogs were their own thing and exempt from qabilism

Western somalis are the most braindead and qabiliste somalis. Plus where is this utopia suppose to be buid in? Cause somalia clearly has clan borders. What stopping the clan that owns that land from kicking out everyone else and keep the city to thwmselves?
