Somali word for “commitment” ?

The fact that there’s no word for commitment in Somali lowkey says a lot about us

Wallahi I was reading a wiki page few months ago that said something like the “The Somali is not a sentimental creature and has not much more regard for a woman, once safely married to her, than he has for his camel” 😂 so no wonder the word commitment is absent from the language, we’re still on that pharaophain shit even 5000yrs later lol

Don’t believe everything our enemies write about us. It’s their aim to dehumanise us and make us look less sympathetic. If their customs were like ours this whole text would be reframed as - the Europeans are practical people and pride themselves in having an egalitarian approach, where the focus is the needs of the community and not individual pleasure... or some other propagaan.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

Seems like our esteemed members have poor knowledge about our mother tongue.

Commitment: Heellanaan. (U Heellan)... Means committed, dedicated etc.

Waxaan U heellanahay inaan howsha dhameeno. (We're committed to completing the task).

I already provided the right answer lol

That’s a good one. But I think it means more dedicated /determined.

axdi means a strong intent to fulfil a pledge/promise that’s a pretty good synonym for commitment, no?
Axdi is not a Somali word. It's an Arabic word: عهد. Which means BALLAN ADAG.

The most suitable word for committment is 'Heellanansho (U Heellan)'. Someone who's ready to do whatever it takes, someone who's dedicated and determined.
