I think this generation born or raised in the diaspora will have fewer kids. We're marrying later and consider our health + lifestyle when family planning.It takes a woman roughly 2.5-3 yrs between children to regain some of the physical toll of pregnancy. 2-3 kids. Just like hooyo. You also get more time with each child + higher survival rates because of western medicine.
And horomonal birth control has untold health consequences. It will literally change your personality so be cautious.

My take is, first, we are Muslims and our Deen allows for Parents to decide how many
children they want have, weather 1 or 15 children ( Some Women still have up to 15 in the
third World)
Also as a Community in the West, imo Somali Family size should be 2-5 kids.
The international standard for Population replacement is 2.2 per Woman, so
we will double that at 2-5.
Somalia doesn't have the resources to feed it's existing population. A huge percentage dies of famine every few years despite all the aid.Get off the birth pills we need to mutiply and make more children. We are slowly declining because of your westernised thoughtswe need to reach the population of china.
God said to have many offsprings and not to fear poverty.
I agree, its a personal choice. I think part of the reason for higher birth rates back home is not merely based on faith but children being seen as more of an asset. That was the case in the west at one point too especially when child labour was permissible. When it was abolished there was a shift in attitude of children as burdensome and in turn a decline in birth rate.
Islam is different (compared to say Christianity), however I've seen a lot of Muslims in the west opt for fewer kids than their parents generation especially those with higher SES. Not to many families (peers of mine) with more than 3 kids. We'll have to wait and see as they are still in their childbearing years.
