Somali woman born in Hargeisa refused Somaliland citizenship due to tribe

She is not his real niece but according to somali qabiil relations, she is his niece.
Isaqs come in and explain this. It was only 2 years ago that you guys attacked mohamed iro, the ogaden singer with isaq rer abti and now this. What kind of dhaqan is this? @Grigori Rasputin

My advice: never rely on a Facebook source, especially if its by a Konfuurian talking about SL. This story is very likely total BS.

btw, when was M. Bakaal Cirro attacked?

2018 wll. I remember it very well someone posted it on here and i know his OG families who live in seattle now were complaining about it.

also correction: she was denied a police certificate to clear her of any criminal activity during her time in hargeysa and not a passport.

I don't remember the M. Bakaal Cirro incident at all, pls post the link to the story if you can. It'd surprise me a lot if anything happened to him just because was Ogaden. Cirro is hugely popular in Somaliland and Hargeisa in particular. He is as much a Hargeisaawi as anyone. Not only is his mom Isaaq, his wife is also from Hargeysa and he's lived there his whole life. He's been pro-SL publicly (I appreciate his private opinion may be different), and he's never done any anti-SL stunts like some other Xidigaha Geeska members did.

I was at a Xidigaha Geeska New Years special a few years back and apart from Maxamed BK, I don't think anyone got as much love from the Hargeisa crowd as Cirro.

In terms of this story, i'd need to know more about the actual particulars, in order to comment. The correction you posted already entirely changes the dynamics of this story.

How does SL citizenship work?
For example would an Isaaq, Dhulbahante from Ethiopia be able to get SL citizenship even if they never lived in Somaliland and have all their ancestors in Somali Galbeed? What about Issas , can they get SL citizenship even if they are Djiboutians?
What about the many reer Somalia who have mother's and reer abti from SL. Do they have automatic citizenship or at least a path to apply for citizenship?
(Genuine questions, I'm not trying to make any political point)

Yes all of the above can get it, just like any cissa and gadabursi can get Djibouti passport, even a gadabursi can get Somali, somaliland, Djibouti and Ethiopian passport

I will not claim to be an expert on this, so any better informed Landers, please correct me if I'm worng.

My understanding is that all of the people you have listed would qualify, except for those bolded. Somaliland citizenship, other than those born in Somaliland, follows the male line, and requires the father/male ancestor to have lived in Somaliland before 1960. Thus that would rule out anyone whose only relationship to SL is through their mother.

P.S. the Somaliland citizenship law is actually not new, it is pretty much word for word the original citizenship law from Somaliland's 1960 constitution, ratified by the SL assembly, before it chose to unite with Somalia.

So a resident in SL who goes to the police to get a certificate of his clean record, won't be able to do so because he requires ID papers, and he can't get those unless he hails from clan from SL during colonial times. I think alot of people bypass the citizenship nonsense using their inlaws and rer abtis, however this beautiful girl got it harsh, perhaps waxa helay koox cunsuriyin

In Somalia we should follow SL archaic citizenship law, there are somethings we may learn from them and reduce terrorist threat.

Her tribe is from Ogadenia but mother is from Beesha dhexe was rejected from getting citizenship. They said your not from here,

SHe is crying now for justice

Famous SL Singer Bakaal Cirro who is also from Ogadenia gave her the advice to 'give up' as he too was also rejected

@Removed @Oday-yar @Sheikh Kulkuli look how they treat your kin than cry about Farmaajo :heh:

Quite the Islamist.
She needs to head to Mogadishu, or even Kismaayo (Jubbaland) if it is also issued there and get herself *The Somali citizenship.

Walaahi I hate it when people get treated like this because of qabiil.

How sad. She's absolutely right. The woman knows nothing but SL, it's her home and she deserves the same rights as other Somalilanders. Bet Somaliland no longer exists in her heart. She should go to Garowe for a passport and all other types of shaarci and documents. That's what even my Isaaq family members in SL do. And the misogyny when that government official said she was going to run away with her kids? Run away from her home to where??

Imma send this to my mother. She wants to transfer all of her property and land to my name, and I've been trying to tell her that it's a bad idea. If I'm not allowed to be a SL citizen, what would protect me from having my property seized by the government?

She was born and bred there but they told her you have to 'get residency'. She said I dont want residency I want full citizenship I was born and grew up here. They said nope, go apply for residency. Tribalism is rife up north and its very sad.

This is embarrassing. This shit does not happen in xamar or jigjiga. Dadku kala dhaqan wanaagsanaa. Idor awawgiin lagub gun sanaa wuxu.

This is to be expected since if Somaliland allowed all ethnic Somali people the right to be citizens of theirs regardless of clan & subclan etc, gender and so on what would be the point of them declaring themselves a separate, independent country.

We also see this exclusivist form of attaining citizenship in Gulf Arab monarchies like Kuwait
