What I don't get is why they even mingle. Can't Twitter have corners kkk. 'Aspiring' pseudoArabs here. 'Aspiring' Blacks here. Segregation needs to happen instead of this annoying, constant bickering about self-identity
The fact of the matter is, Somalis are all over the place with their self-perceived identity, which is whatever. What remains to be studied is why they get their knickers in a twist and proactively announce their "otherness" by trolling the internet with White nationalist talking points with regards to "Madows" and drag anyone who identifies as "Black" in the context of a Western backdrop where we classify and are classified as Black all our lives. Can't they at least see the nuance enough not to stress their personal issues onto others?nah let 'em mesh
i'm fine with people bullying each other over their views. besides the immaturity this is kinda how young people express themselves everywhere. especially considering we're a homogeneous, relatively small ethnic group. it makes sense people can't accept differing viewpoints. i don't believe we'll ever be a melting pot of ideas anytime soon so this calacaal is kinda understandable.
you can't have every identity under the sun when the person you're ing against might have at most a 5% divergence in genes, practices the same religion, heck might even be in your clan!

What it comes down to is viewing the "Black" label as monolithic and tarred, pun intended. I think it's really as simple as that and an attempt to run as far away from that as possible, combined with the thought that another Somali identifying as such actively makes them one too, one of whatever the other Somali see themselves as. It's cajib.do you really think any of them have the done the research required to even comprehend the complexity of these identification tags?
heck i remember a lengthy debate between me and another dude not too long ago about this very topic. he threw everything he could from genetics to colonial racial classifications and made every assumption he could before he finally decided the reason he was really angry was because he simply preferred the African label and despised Western blacks. nothing he was debating mattered because of his own preconceptions.
this is how most somalis function. we're too married to our individual ideologies and can't see how fracturing that thought process is. but we're also too interconnected to disassociate ourselves from what we all think. it's why we seek each other out no matter where we are. we honestly can't help it.

It's over compensation really. You're not white enough to be white (except Shaun King), but you really not "black" either, which causes an identity issue and often results in being vocal about blackness to counter what you yourself perceive as you not being "(physically) black enough"

But still this identity issue shouldn't be that widespread when we already have two dominant ethnic and religious identities. And some got a qabiil identity too so that makes it three. Add an African/East African identity and you have four, though the last identity kinda implies blackness to the ignorant mind, which leads back to what I first said.
Extreme afrocentrism is a , but the reason she's being dragged is primarily due to that afrocentrist slant. If it was coming from purely ethnocentric, Somali perspective, it wouldn't garner this attention bc its normative. In fact, an anti-foreigners/gaal perspective is almost quintessentially Somali. Her mistake was rolling in it an afrocentric shroud they don't appreciate.
