Residents of The Heritage Apartments, a HUD-subsidized complex, have received eviction notices demanding large sums of back rent.
Legal Aid and a state representative are investigating the situation and advocating for the tenants.
They have recieved notices tht they owe 1-5k in back rent and if they dont pay they will be evicted. When the residents got legal aid to look over payments the legal aid said tht the owners said tht the tenants owe thousands of dollars back to 2020. Yet have never told the tenants which makes this look like a scam. One somali lady whos 73 years old has lived there for 19 years and has always paid her rent on time and theyve told her she owes back rent. When the news reporters contacted the heritage apartments they did not give any response.
From my personal experience i believe this is a scam. This type of thing has happened to my family. We were leaving our apartment and asked for our deposit back and they said we wouldnt get our deposit back cuz the place was trashed. Not just tht but we OWE 3k to fix the place up. It was all bullshit and we already took pictures of our apartment before leaving. We went to court and won and got our deposit back but all the other somalis they did it too just left their deposit. Each somali neighbor tht left they told them they owe 3-5k just so they can keep their deposit. I live in MN.
