Somali surnames in the West

Did your family continue the Somali naming system when they moved to the west (your last names being your father and grandfather first names) or do you just have the same surname as your father?

I just have my father’s last name which is my great grandfather’s first name

We did have the Somali naming custom until we switched our last name to my great-grandfather’s name.

Now, me, my dad and my siblings all have the same last name.

It’s a rather unique last name even in Somalia. If you google my last name and Australia, I’m one of the first to come up.

Lol i go back on my abtirsi and some rather unique names be there that i'd never see anyone have on the streets, maybe i should make one my last name
