Bro Somalis would've dominated if we were simply a united polticial force. We were and are divided. If Somalis unite with one idealogy and state east Africa from Sudan to Madagascar would've been ours by the 1700s.Somalis are weird as in one aspect we love to expand our lands but in others we are stagnant.
Out of all the east African ethnicities we have the most land per capita however if we were so imperial why did we leave a goldmine like Madagascar untouched.
I think what plagued somalis was we didnβt have an ideology of expanding.
Imam Ahmed had the religious justification to conquer.
The europeans conquered the americas because of capitalism. Ghenghis khan wanted to unite the world under his rule. Alexander the Great wanted the whole known world under his rule.
We just expanded because we outperform the competition naturally. If we had an ideology or religious belief like we had with Imam Ahmed to conquer we wouldβve had the entire east African to ourselves.
Exactly there isnβt a single sub-sharan African country who had better maritime history than us. Out of all 38 costal countries Somalis stand number one.Bro Somalis would've dominated if we were simply a united polticial force. We were and are divided. Somali pirates, Barbary pirates and now Houthi pirates. Whoβs gonna fill the last Yonko spot?Exactly there isnβt a single sub-sharan African country who had better maritime history than us. Out of all 38 costal countries Somalis stand number one.
Do you think somalis could beat the Barbary pirates?
Only some North African countries could stand toe to toe with us.

West Africa was the extremities of the west in the Silk Road, only being connected to it through trans-saharan trade routes. It makes sense that they didnβt do much sea traveling until the Atlantic slave tradeSomalis represents Blackbeard
Houthis represents Kaido
Barbary pirates represents Shanks
Big Mom represents West Africans.
Hardly can be called maritime these west africans mostly used canoes to travel across rivers.

Its a shame that our land was very arid if we had fertile land we wouldβve been 100x bigger than amharas. The Somali people, numbering around a million give or take already owned a landmass the size of Western Europe, and all of the important ports and trade routes, on land and sea that came with it.

I noticed that too when I traveled across the somali countryside i seen many dried river beds which with a little bit of engineering could be permanent rivers. The North had exotic wildlife just a century and half ago, Somalia as a whole had a lot more fertile land and greenery compared to todayβs situation after a century of climate change, environmental neglect and industrial level deforestation. With the right mindset, we could turn everything from Zeila to Bosaso and from Cape Guardafui to Kismayo into a green paradise the way China is literally turning deserts into lush areas through βregreeningβ.
