He could've simply congratulated them and left it there as a display of respect and common courtesy, the extra bit about the alliance and cooperation is due to him wanting America not to pull out the troops. Not subtly whatsoever.

The drone strikes Trump did is unprecedented , even in Obama standards. He dropped more drones in Somalia in a year than Obama did in 8. He also removed all civilian oversight so CENTCOM can indiscriminately bomb the shit out of Somalia.

So while Trump would move the few American Personnel thats based in Kismayo airport (in reality it’s them that hold Jubaland current administration and give them protection not Kenya) he would of still bombed the shit out the place with or without American personnel on the ground. That would be disastrous for Somalia.

The Obama and most likely Biden policy is probably what’s best, enough drones to give alshabab trouble and some US personnel to hold down the fort from Kismayo airport.

It’s fantasy to think Somalia can do that alone. They need every help they can get. May they continue droning Al Shabab areas.
