Probably mostly Benadiri type merchants who were trading between Somalia and South Asia. Don't think they were traditional Somalis.

The gender ratio also reveals it (merchants), unlikely to be settled people.

It's possible the were northern Somalis who worked for the british colonial administration.
Many somalis in kenya descend from people who settled there because they worked for british authorities.
