Taliban are nationalist and Islamist. They are somewhat independent as well. Meanwhile, AS are loyal to AQ and their ambitions.
On one hand, they talk about Somali unity and keeping our land away from foreigners, at the same time inviting all types of foreigners to attack fellow Somalis.

If we didn't spend our efforts and resources on keeping AS at bay, who are also hindering the state building process of Somalia, then Ethiopia wouldn't have been able to make this type of a deal.
I don't think al shabab will be defeated anytimeb soon. The war will drags on until 2030 and beyond bc I don't think America and international community will leave somalia anytime soon
We lifted arms embargo and secured debt relief. So if the president builds industry in other states for revenue to finance the war on AS it can easily be won.

If I was a commander and there was a war between Somalia/Ethiopia, and Al Shabab were gonna join us entirely to fight them, I would lure them to the battlefront and massacre them all with the help of Ethiopians.

AS is in no way a military force. In a pitched battle facing equipped and trained soldiers they scatter with their tails between their legs.
