Ever since moving to scarborough I've noticed more and more whitewashed somalis. I know a somali family where the mom drinks and wears jeans, and another somali family where their youngest son is named elliot.

Even though they're whitewashed and lack deen we're still close with them. They're the only other somali families within a few miles.

In Somali culture it’s not what you look like but what your tribe you’re from. I have Arab Somali cousins who look Caucasian but are paternally Somali and they speak decent/good Somali.

They go to Hargeisa every summer and nobody questions their Somaliness.

Paternally Somali/East Asian mixes with East Asian look will always be viewed as perpetual foreigners simply because of their east asian look.

Akhi the only reasons we accepted Arabs and Indians is because it became normalized .We used to do trade with the Arabs and Indians so it’s familiarity.

I think before marrying a foreigner was stigmatized while now it’s becoming less and less. Which is a good thing Inbrednimo sucks
