Somali People are really helpful

Every time I find my self in a predicament Somali people come flocking. They even stop their car in the middle of the road just to help me. Wallahi nothing beats living with your people.

This mentality still somewhat exists in the gulf. Growing up my mother would often tell me about how everyone would pool money together for someone who was struggling even if they barely knew them. "So and so's in a pinch and needs money for her son's schooling!" then everyone would pitch in some cash with higher amounts expected based on your wealth until enough was gathered. Random Somalis would also just offer you a free ride if you needed to go somewhere that was on their way and they encountered you, sometimes even if it wasn't on their way. People always looked out for each other, even when helping find each other jobs, regardless of qabiil. Still somewhat do. A random adeer who wasn't even of my qabiil helped pull strings for me involving getting my driver's license a few years back. I wanted to have my lessons in Dubai over Sharjah despite having a Sharjah visa and this saxiib wrote a letter to some big wig and got him to approve my transfer.

When I went to apple store and had to get my laptop repaired, a young Somali woman I've never met before pulled strings to help me out and hooked me up with a free repair.

I would definitely help Somali's out and pull strings for them at my job as well. Somalinimo is one thing I appreciate about our culture. We'll help each other out real quick and look out for each other.

I do love living in a city that has a lot of somalis too. I just hope that this mentality of helping each other out is there once the elders who migrated here, pass away and the youngsters who are born here take over. I am concerned about our community when the parents/ elders start to decrease. The somalis born in the west are showing Madow community behaviors, I certainly hope that our community does not end up like the Madow's.

Sadly they already are, the only thing that we didn't hit that low I am talking about the "baby mamma and daddy shit" is that we are still Muslims, if young Somalis become non Muslim then we are finished for good.

I was getting from a foot that was directly across from where she was standing. It's more so the older generation that helps me. I don't interact with anyone my age tbh.

Lol. I’ve noticed this too. The younger ones can at times have an attitude. The males can be helpful but the girls less so.
I get better customer service from other horners.

I also vaguely remember this random Somali guy accompanying us to Marine Land in our minivan in 98' or 99' we met at Kmart or Zellers and he wanted to join. What a strange time where you can just up and leave with strangers for the weekend.

Were you part of one of the thousands of Somali families with a green Dodge Caravan? It would be a nightmare after Eid prayer trying to figure out which car was yours.



I don't like to reminisce too much, otherwise I start to remember lots of good boys and girls that are now gone or have fallen into real tough times to the point of no return. That's the one thing I did not like about the community's tightknit nature and Somalinimo. I'm glad the community is much bigger now. You had relationships with everyone in all corners of the city and everyone held a place in your heart.
