I don’t get why somalis are prone to using individual cases to make blanket statements.

We’re most likely underrepresented in this kind of crime, yet all types of broad statements are made about the men of our ethnic group based on the occasional case here and there. It’s weird.
Black brits (westafricans/caribbeans) in the UK are overrepresented in femicide, especially in London. They few times I’ve seen ppl discuss this online they don’t mention ethnic group, they’re smart enough to label it a ’black’ issue rather than name specific ethnic groups (to avoid stereotypes & stigmatization).

That’s very true. Even when it comes to domestic abuse, out of all the Somalis I know, only one husband beat his wife and they divorced shortly after. Alx divorce is normal in our culture, otherwise imagine being stuck in that marriage.

What protects us and differentiates us from other communities is early family intervention.
In almost all cases that took place in Somalia, relatives failed to intervene and demand that gabadha ina la furo before escalation. Social systems are obvs breaking down meaning there will be more cases. But there is no need to use alarmist language and exaggerate

How can you demand in Islam in gabdha la furo? I’m not saying it’s wrong to want that, just asking how that would work or is that just being interpreted a different way or ignored? I know some families do this but I always found it kinda strange for someone outside the marriage to demand divorce although the motivations may be understandable. How do they reconcile that?
