The first scenario is definitely a bigger risk which no one should take. But it's also important to see some challenges with marrying from back home especially when you bring them here (which may take awhile) it can be emasculating to start from scratch and rely on your wife for everything. Both parties have to be very committed.

Alternatively, these girls can stay single, being cursed with a useless man or an opportunist is a horrible way to live.

Why shouldn't you guys give the somali men back home a chance? There are some with University education and have skills and just need an opportunity, I have seen other muslim women marry men from their home countries so why not somali women? My cousin married from Somalia because she was having a hard time finding a spouse in the west, and it worked out perfectly.
Its only gonna get worse and worse because i don't see the ratios improving at all

It's possible, I know some people are starting to go that route doesn't have to be from motherland either could be other places Somalis live and haven't been effected by the gangster mentality.

Other Muslims tend to marry their cousins (often first) in that case the chances of the person running off once they get their papers are lower since they literally have their own family to answer to.

Good to hear that everything worked out for your cousin, I guess people only tend to talk about the cases that don't end up well.
