It is not slave trade, Somalis willingly go to Libya so they can get put on boats to Europe.

The traffickers want to get paid and they will do anything for the money.

Stop saying Somalis are "slaves". They are illegal migrants

If there's gonna be a change and education back home about tahriib, then let this be the last incident of its kind. You can pray for him, donate as much money as you want but as long as Somalis really follow this dark path, it will always be like this. A never ending cycle

(Hard pill to swallow)
This wouldn't have happened if that person was educated enough to know about the dangers tahriib brings and the burden you will be to your family if held hostage by those lawless militia. Let this be a lesson to every somali

And No, this ain't a slave trade wtf, the conditions maybe a lil similar to how slaves are treated but shyt ain't slavery. This is why people need education. :snoop:

You people are annoying. Who cares about the semantics, i clearly said ignore it youre of no help. You can call it a tinder date if you want, doesn’t change his dire circumstances.
also very easy for you to say in your priveldged gaalo country with abundant lacag to dictate dangers of tahriib. Don’t blame the people you donkeys, blame the government for making desperate measures necessary for people like him and your parents, who were also refugees andasylum seekers

Don't insult us for correcting the lies that are being told. Tahriibis could find other routes into Europe or a better life but they CHOOSE to go to Libya, knowing the dangers, they CHOOSE to extort their relatives.

The amount of money that is spent to "free" them, could easily be funnelled into a better life in Somalia or an education abroad.

Why should we all play along with the lie? Somalis are not enslaved, they are being held in cells until they pay the fee to be trafficked.

So offensive to call this slavery, do people even know what slavery is? Wtf.. slaves didn't willingly go to their "owners", slaves didn't have a choice to get their "ransom" paid.

Slaves have zero choice or agency over their body or destiny. People that get trafficked into slavery/sex slavery, don't get a chance to call their family to pay a ransom. They just disappear, never to be seen or heard from again.

Why would anyone go to to Libya? Its more dangerous than Somalia. The money from tahriib could instead go towards funding a business or education.

Some people view Europe as a status symbol. Regardless of wealth they have back home they will still want to leave. I have a relative whose father has 100s of properties and loads of businesses.

He wanted to do tahriib and his father managed to stop him at the last minute.

A better life doesn't only exist in the west saxiib. Feeling to a warzone is not the best option. He can move to another city or neighbouring country for better prospects. No-one would have an issue if that was the case.

Bear in mind when Somalis were fleeing the war in the 1990s and 2000s lots of people never made it. Because of drownings, organ harvestings and so on.

By the way, I'm not saying you should not donate, by all means, help her/him. But just don't spread lies about Somalis being slaves.
am i spreading lies? you guys chose to read the surrounding issue in full (or didn't) then choose to go off of one single phrase, most likely used out of emotion. I posted to spread awareness, and his situation is dire and if not calling it slavery makes you and others feel better, then go ahead. But terminology isn't bringing him back home.

Plus this situation is notoriously ignored, so calling it a trade might get the right people to give a f and stop it from happening.

Look at these poor Somalis feeling embarrassed. "Dont call it a slave Trade! We're migrants!" Fuckin stupid mentality you've got going for you. If you're cleaning another man's bathroom for free, and getting pimped slapped to do so, you're no migrant, you're a fucking slave, a fucking adoon. Look at some of these comments dodging the reality behind the post. Instead of addressing the issue, some would rather come out and pretend to correct the author.

You're just another Adoon in Libya not a migrant laxyahay. Taasi waligaa ogsoonow smh

Out of this sad desperate situation you are all choosing to focus on the wording? Seems to me like the superiority complex is kicking in and you can’t handle being referred to & treated as slaves in Libya.

Just because it’s not chattel slavery doesn’t mean this isn’t a human rights violation.

No amount of semantics will change the reality on the ground in Libya. Most of the Somalis in Libya are enslaved[Forced into work without pay].

It doesn't matter if the Somalis willingly travelled to Libya, they were still captured by the Libyans[Tuaregs] in the Sahara and sold into Slavery in the cities/towns, such as Ghadames etc.

these people have been away from their tuulos for too long wallahi. they believe they are true reer ingriis, mareykaan and kanada. they look at their fellow somalis (i use fellow loosely) with utter contempt, and dictate what they should be doin in hardship - all with never actually haven experienced any hardships.

there's a reason why the elder somalis who are in the west are more compassionate and understanding of the lengths some go to escape their situations.

Then what does that make Somali pirates who have cadaans captive for years? Are they slavers as well?

The reality is Somalis in Libya have brought their situation on themselves. Libya is currently the worst place on Earth with even male migrants getting raped by these gay dhegcas. Why would you spend $5,000 to go there? Clearly poverty isn't an issue if you could afford this trip. And ignorance of the risks isn't an issue either, with media covering it extensively over the last few years.

It really comes down to incredibly poor judgment and selfishness. I wouldn't care if they didn't always drag their families into this.
