The day when somalis decided to move towards single unitary state that encompasses all somalis regardless of clan. Our nation/people are not in a good state but lets not forget what our
”independence days” stand for. Our right for self-determination and unity.

I got inspired by the previous thread. Yeah, our nation is in a sorry state but always remember the history. We have regressed far away from the goals durign independence but lets be honest. We will solve our issues, this century or the next millennia. Nations fall and rise, thats the course of history, same with us.

Back to my original point, I would actually rebrand the independence day from freeing from colonialism towards to the birth of 1st ever somali nation to include all. A step above clan sultanates. What you guys think.

I thought that it was already the case, unless I'm mixing up things. To my understanding, 26th June and 1st July are our independence days, while the latter date was also when the Somali territories unified and thus serves as our republic day. Both dates are celebrated, which I believe to be worthy of being recognized as they denoted different causes.

Thats what I want to focus on, especially on the day of July 1st. Some of our people focus too much on liberation from colonials. While that is very important, on the day of July 1st somalis made the 1st concrete step towards unified somali nation. The colonial legacy overshines this extremely important part and imo, the best thing we done.
