somalis are very hypervisible lol.. If you were to ask the average minnesotan what’s the percentage of somalis in Minnesota… what would their answer be? I saw someone discuss this on tiktok awhile ago and random whites & black americans responded with numbers ranging from 10-30% somalis are only around 1% of the population of Minnesota.

alot of the overblown and distorted discourse around somalis stems from this hypervisibility which creates this false impression that Somalis make up a huge share of the population

Why would the gov ever downplay the amount of Somalis there are? Especially considering which party is in charge?

Don’t think it’s necessarily about the government. You have to be willing to participate in the census. I personally haven’t ever participated even though I’ve been asked. This could easily lead to undercounting.
