somalis that have a significant amount of arab ancestry show up as ethiopian admixed on these dna companies due to them not being able to tell the difference between a somali with recent arab ancestry and a habesha who are cushitic with recent semitic ancestry, if these dna companies had a more advanced algorithm they'd be able to make the distinction
If he had that level of "Ethiopian" on 23andme I'd buy it but yeah, this is suspect. But in all seriousness, folks underestimate how much Ethiopian influences are in even non-Galbeed Somalis. I would say by far the most common non-Somali ancestral elements I've seen pop up on Somali commercial tests (going off 23andme, G25 and qpAdm) are Highland Ethiopian elements rather "Arab" or whatever else.
