It's goddamn Twitter. Tweeting is thinking aloud in today's terms. Ppl tweet about every little thing, and you guys should stop treating it like sacred ground.
true i guess i would like to believe that some ppl (esp somalis) still have filters and are above insulting their parents- at the very least

That's way too wishful and a bit naive. Ppl insult their parents irl, and they'll def tweet feeling some type of way on Twitter.
why is that an excuse for reprehensible behaviour tho?

if you "blow off steam" on a public forum then expect people to take it however they feel it.
You're way too idealistic for reality. All I'm saying is good luck policing tweets.

well no one's calling for policing tweets

but in a place where there is no policing you can expect some backlash for whatever you post. it's not even worth mentioning that it's a place where people let off steam - we know that.

that's not idealism at all.

She's wrong to insult her but Twitter is for blowing steam. The outrage is overblown.

These ppl who's parents don't speak a lick of English and don't even try end up becoming their folks' eternal translators since they were 10. The child becomes the parent. I'm sure it gets tiresome.

So I can't be called racist after saying racist shit on Twitter cuz I'm just "blowing off steam"?:heh:
If people can say whatever they want to, then others can react to said comment in whichever way they want. Can't have the 1st part without the 2nd.

You wanna know what's actually tiresome? Having to up end and leave your country as a refugee, then finally settle somewhere in the West so your children can get peace and a good education, only for them to curse you out on Twitter cuz they had to translate a letter for you:stopit:

I feel bad for refugees that came here 20+ yes ago that still don't know the language. Hooyos specifically have this problem. I guess it's because they don't have to leave the house much it rely on it to survivre? Idk

No lie, I used to wish my parents didn't speak our host language either, there was no way for me to bullshit school reports or parent/teacher meetings like the other Somali kids:mjlol:

You don't feign shock and outrage at their being racists on Twitter. Likewise, ppl making out insults or blowing off steam about family members on Twitter is commomplace af.

I clearly said she shouldn't have insulted her so put down your cape, this isnt a hero moment.

Idealism is feigning shock and indignation that it happened, like Twitter is sacred ground. Twitter is just a reflection of rl.

So any reaction to people cursing their mother on Twitter is fake?:heh:

If it's commonplace to curse out your mother publicly, then it better be commonplace to be cursed out for doing such.

And f*ck are you talking about "like Twitter is a sacred ground"? Twitter is a public ground. Nobody will care if you blow of steam to your friends about your family, because no one will know. But if you're taking it public you won't get sugarcoated answers by best friends.

You seem to think it's normal to publicly curse your mother for something specific. And it's not that she just said "ugh I hate my mother", because that leaves out so much background information that people won't bother to even think about it. But no, and I reiterate, she literally publicly cursed out her mother for something very specific:francis: And it doesn't seem to have been done in a more light hearted fashion. In my opinion she's an ungrateful spoiled brat.

who's feigning shock? indignation is just the real-time response to what was being shown. how commonplace the behaviour is doesn't stop the visceral reactions you can get.

and if it's a reflection of real life then it's appropriate to handle interactions there the way you would irl. if someone was chastising their parents for not being able to speak english most would think that person was being insensitive and might call it out as such.

like what's your argument here lol

who's saying twitter is sacred ground? it's a public platform.

It is very harsh on the mum, but what transpired for her to insult her mother? Could the mother have physically or mentally (or both) abused/neglected her as a child? Is she a domineering mother that she doesn't want anything to do with her? Parents should be kind, caring, considerate and supportive to their children and if not, they shouldn't expect to be held in high esteem by their offspring because of cultural and religious obligations. This way, we could have better quality parents.

Even if your mum is ignorant, you shouldn't embarrass her like that. especially since our community is small and those words will hunt the mum forever. However, the girl in Twitter your mum has never complained from feeding you each 2 hours, teaching you how to use the toilets.

I think there are underlying issues that triggered her rage against her mum other than the illiteracy and lack of grasp of the language.

There are journal for that purpose not public forums. Plus the regular family help groups.

Cannuck

True, but we humans sometimes react on impulse and didn't give much consideration to other platforms to address the issue. Wish both of them all the best to re-connect.

how can you disrespect your hooyo like that though. twitter xalimos are baffling :meleshame:. parents sacrifice so much for their children.

I would be ashamed if I was translating for my mother as a teenager. :ileycry:

Know the language, you can't ask for a translator everywhere.

how is she confidently speaking badly about her own mum in a very large platform where the world can see her views? I must be turning old because most of these girls are around 18/19 that talk reckless on twitter smh
