Every region has its own liyu police. The same goes for Tigray. Other than that it is the federal army and tigreans controlled the majority top positions in the past but the middle command and the lower ranks were majority Amhara, South and Oromo in that order. PM Abiy removed most of top TPLF generals from their post and replaced them with Oromo and Amhara generals. The army (at least until now) stayed neutral and don't involve in politics or side with any party.

I am talking about power in the federal government. TPLF currently has zero power as it is now out of the old EPRDF coalition and is now only an opposition party in the federal parliament. It has no ministers in the cabinet and TPLF is not part of the ruling party (prosperity party of PM Abiy). TPLF is now a regional party and runs the government of Tigray only.

I understand the frustration of some of the segments of Ethiopians about the current map by the election board. It is not only Somalis but also Sidamas who are not happy with the map. The issue of Somali state and its number and also the Sidama issue was raised to the election board and it explained it like this. The election board created the map using the old TPLF figures without changing any numbers because it is not mandated to change constituencies without conducting a new census. It is the unfair manipulation of TPLF that is now hunting us and I am very sure it will be corrected after the next census. The election board simply doesn't have the mandate to change the old figures without prior conducting a census.

Apart from the raw numbers, the Somali state has now more powers and influence in the federal government than Tigray. In fact just few days ago the last TPLF held ministry was given to a Somali lady Filsan Abdullahi to become the youngest minister of Ethiopia. Somali region now has more ministers and is also more powerful than Tigray region in the federal parliament and government because of clever power maneuver from its president and leaders. Even if Tigray has more MPs in the Parliament 38 out 547, they are not part of the government that controls all the rest of the seats. They are only oppositions without any say in the federal government. The Somali state is part of the federal government and part of the decision making cabinet as a full member. TPLF currently has zero ministers in the federal government.

It is both I think. EPRDF parties except TPLF created a new united party with a complete new program. The program was the opposite of what TPLF preached and believed all the way. So they designed a program that was impossible for TPLF to accept. As expected, TPLF refused to be part of the new party and by that excluded itself from the ruling majority in the parliament. After that PM Abiy started to expel all TPLF ministers from the government. TPLF ended up being an opposition party with its 38 seats almost always opposing everything the government is doing but with over 500 seats the government is holding TPLF became useless and powerless to have any say or influence in the federal government,
