I think Somali people are beautiful and the only competition we got in Africa is Nollywood. Imagine If we actually had HD quality movies directed to perfection.

I think the whole world would be tuning in to watch.
The Ajakis will make'em laugh and the Xalimos will have them dazing. The Somali language Is beautiful that's why we have many folks listening to our songs. Eritreans for some reason cant seem to get enough.

The Somali actors and actresses wont be limited to fobs we'll also give the diaspora a platform to behave how they normally would :pachah1:

Real talk, how does one go on about this? I actually don't mind funding a bunch of up and coming Somali youth and perhaps purchase them top of the line cinema cameras and equipments.

I thought about this and the lacaag earned from it would be alot but you also have to think about the audience factor

-You cannot make it like bollywood with romance+sex scenes. Public outrage+ an increase of youth and HIV/AIDS
-You cannot make it too immodest, again public outrage
-Somalis are very influential people. If a show were to come out then the city would be talking about it with an increase in the amount of followers. What I mean is that people might rape, murder, whatever they see on TV they will do.

So you have to be on the right scale. No matter what we cannot turn out like the Nigerians, deen-less people.

I think it could work on a few conditions

1. Don’t go down the nollywood/bollywood route of casting pale bleached people to play characters. It’s embarrassing and reeks of self hate.

2. It should be kept classy, romance, maybe a little shukaansi but not anything sexual or deviant.

3. The elements of the story should remain in tact with Somali culture, I don’t want to see a bad copy of a Kuwait show. Keep it within our own culture, it would be good for the diaspora to see their own people and culture.

4. This is optional but making shows based off somali folklore and history would be really interesting and beneficial.

They need all the top grade equipment they can get from western countries, so we have to play a major role in influencing the startup.
When Somalis make movies they dont usually have a script prepared and majority of their work is improvised. That needs to change. The director has the least authority in the whole shoot. That also needs to change, the director is the heart of the whole project, people should know that.

I agree, we would technically be stationed in Somalia and our headquarters could them easily be attacked so we outta respect the dhaqan and just make the people feel at home

I agree with you. I would never compromise my own culture to please another man who may not even respect me. Nollywood aims to please the white man. As Somalis we wanna showcase our beauty, and bleaching is not what we consider beauty. We should have movies and shows based on history and folklore like you've mentioned. Think of it as a project to educate the world on our lives and our traditional values.

I think we should stand out from other people and make our own. Instead of romance movies (bollywood) we should try Action and also Daqan. Imagine a somali adaptation of the Ancient Somalis?

We would have every single genre. From jaceyl to dagaal.I would love to see movies based on Ahmed Gurey and sayid Abdalla. Imagine someone getting the pleasure of playing Siyad Barre in cenmised Somali film.

That would make crazy sales

IMO should be historical or musical/comedy type films no one whose poor wants to watch reality on the screen . Film is suppose to be make believe

I know a Somali girl based in Manchester who spent around £10,000 just on one camera and few accessories. I think she went to film school and had plans on starting a Somali cinema with the right equipment, actors etc.. but no idea why she's not going through with it.

It would be EXCELLENT PR for us if we can get some movie stars on the scene. Instead Somalia being known for producing pirates, it shall be known for producing exquisite looking stars :banderas: We must put our people on the spotlight! .......and make Mariin Somalis the beauty standard again!!!!!

Same our people wouldn't be going crazy for some hindi movies if we had ones about us. Also funding matters, no one wants to see movies filmed on with a potato

I thought you'd left lol
When I was in Somalia wlhi everywhere I looked someone was watching some Somali dubbed Bollywood. But after seeing how funny they made those movies I knew we'd succeed in the film industry :chrisfreshhah:

So realistically, let's say I purchase the equipment for these youth, I'm talking Alexxa Arri or Red cameras. They write a movie and shoot it, edit it and complete it, what happens then? I think the lack of platform to showcase their work and return on their investment, in this case their time, may not be appealing to them. So how would they go on about making money? I know you can sell it to Netflix but surely there are other ways, YouTube isn't an option, you get ripped off.

Horta what happens in these film festivals like Cannes film festival and Sundance etc...?
