we should be anti ethiopia by default. if they finish the gerd dam would they turn to our rivers? dont underestimate xabashis i wouldnt be suprise if they cut through mountains just to dam our rivers. if somalia wasnt a failed state then a competent government would get themselves arab league support for galbeed. egypt gets a destabilized ethiopia out of it and sudan would be wise to stay in line with jaamacadda carabta. until galbeed is ours ethiopia will have water hegemony over us due to somalis being 100s of kms away from our river sources.

I sort of agree with this. If the situation between Egypt escalated, Somalia could bargain with the AL and ask for support for Somalia's claim to the Ogaden.

It is very clear the AL want one Horn state to support Egypt in order to legitimise their fight.

In Egyptian media, they are claiming that Ethiopia is pressuring Somalia to not support Egypt and that they're drying our rivers. This is to build a case to the West that any action Egypt takes is in everybody's interest.

As for the history, Nasser's government informed the UN on numerous occasions to not allow the annexation of the Ogaden by Ethiopia until Somalia becomes independent.

Nassar was a very long time ago. We are not in that world anymore and have to act accordingly.

If Egypt and the Gulf monarchies don't care about the ummah and Arab unity, forsaking Al Aqsa and the Palestinians then we have no obligation towards them.

For example why should we be anti Iran because Saudi fears them while they are in bed with Israel.

The corrupt leaders expect us to sacrifice everything while they wouldn't hesitate to support our worst enemy if it benefited them.

I completely agree with the first point about Nasser. I brought him up to be balanced when discussing Egypt-Somalia relations.

As for Ummah, whether Arabs have abandoned the cause or not means nothing. The deen explicitly mentions the Ummah and if Somalia calls itself a muslim nation then it must acknowledge it. Allah will judge these governments on yowm ul qiyama.

However, Somalia is not in a position to assist anyone so it does not really matter. The most we can do is submit press statements supporting Palestine and vote on resolutions at the UN.

As for Iran, their ideology directly combats ours. Iran were expelled in 2014 because of they were funding Shia thinking in Somalia. Whether that is true or not, idk but the point stands that Somalia will never deal with them because ppl see them as gaal.

iran are backing the zaidi shia houthis. if they capture the gulf backed sunni south yemen the closest place to them that accepts reugees is somali territories which would cause influx of refugees. a stable yemen is better.

Before one comments, it is important to list Somalia and Egypt's history. During the trusteeship, the UN gave Colombia, Phillipines and Egypt supervision over the Italians during the 1950s. As one can expect, the former two did not really care whereas Gamal Abdel-Nasser used this opportunity as a means to prove his revolutionary credentials and "free" a fellow "Arab" Muslim nation.

This meant Abdel-Nasser appointed one of his most esteemed diplomats, Kamal El-Din Salah (Kamuldiin in Somali) as his point man in Somalia. They both agreed that the Italians were stifling progress on independence in Somalia and gave the SYL much needed support in the UN to push the case for independence. During this time, Somalis received scholarships to Al-Azhar and Kamuldiin was essentially given a blank cheque to support the SYL.

After independence, Egypt became one of the first nations to recognise Somalia as well as a military backer and one of the only African nations to support Somalia's claim to the Ogaden. However, after the war, one could argue that Egypt ignored Somalia as it went from a pan-Arabist to a relatively insular nation. There were the odd aid packages, the reconstruction of the defence ministry but they were not as present as Turkey or even UAE/Qatar have been in recent years.

Friendship is a two-way street. It is not Somalia's fault that Egypt decided to look elsewhere for allies in Africa. Thats my piece.
Honestly we shouldn't care what happened 60 years ago. We have to know if Egypt is our friend right now and tbh they pretty much ignored us for the last 30 years or so. We should base our support on what is beneficial to us without thinking about past friends or past enemies
