Somali Democracy Would Look Like This

DR OSMAN

In Somalia we must consider the following camps in our politics because we are definitely not united on politics irrespective of clan politics.

I would classify the following topics into camps

1. Security
2. Economics
3. Health/Education
4. Taxes
5. Secular vs Islamist
6. Religious values vs Human rights
7. Federalist vs Centralist vs Secession is also a matter of contention

Right wing camp are areas such as

1. Big on security, they love military and police, tough criminal laws, big on defense spending over other areas of govt
2. Economics are u pro business, Low taxes, low regulations, low worker rights. I won't justify what the reasoning behind this to develop a strong market, I will let the people who follow this demonstrate that themselves and present it to the people.
3. Health/Education, the right wing is about private management of education/health with govt control on funding/regulations/curriculum
4. Taxes their for low taxes across the board in the economy, not just income taxes, but business, sales tax, inftracture taxes, federal taxes.
5. They are pro religious values in society which means eliminating human rights of citizens
6. Federalist they prefer state rights

Left wing camp

1. Less on security and military, prefers less wars and less policing.
2. Economics they are pro workers right and less business rights
3. Health/Education they prefer state controlled/funded/managed hospitals/education facilities all the way up to 'university'
4. High on taxes across the board in the economy be it income, business, sales, infrastructure.
5. They are pro human rights for all irrespective of belief or disbelief and religious values kept to personal level not state level
6. Pro centralist and less states right

Centrist or Moderate Camp

1. They argue for moderation on security and military between the left n right position
2. They argue a middle ground on economics to protect business rights and worker rights. No unity among them as they cherry pick from the right/left
3. Health/Education they argue again for moderate position between state control and private control. But there is no unity among them as they can be left/right on this.
4. On taxes they argue a moderate position on taxes, they are also not unified on this topic
5. They are argue for a balance between shariah and human rights. Umm your either a human and u fully support inalienable rights or your not, I find it hypocritical u say you a moderate on this matter saying 'there is something u will not get as human being' like practise of religion, personal liberties, gay rights, etc.
6. Moderate on federal/central, they argue for and against both so there is no unified position on this matter

As great as moderate sounds but it's essentially a position that cherry picks from both sides and forms a major party thinking they can get the most votes by representing the most of the people, where-as right n left wing matters are 'set in stone' we don't nudge on our principles .
which I think is better.

So in Somalia parties need to decide which they stand for. Fundamentally parties in Somalia are going to promote a policy on those major areas, I hope u find a party that stands for what is most of your values. The only area I disagree with left wing is economics steering to much to workers and not businesses but I will still vote for them because I believe in secularism more then federalism even, I prefer being free in a centralized somalia, then hostage to shariah law in a federal somalia.

My policy priority is the following and the party that ticks the most I will vote for. But the interesting thing about politics is I will also leave a party if it violates an idea I believe in like freedom, human rights, secularism. Heck even if the party is weak on security I may leave, it will depend on that time period and where the society is in it's development stage, so I may swing to the right or left as things change on the ground cherry picking policies also. These are no 1 too me in the priority order.

1. Human rights, I want to be free first so any party who has this manifesto will win my vote
2. Secularism and religion not involved in the state
3. Federalism is my third most important priority
4. Security
5. Economics. I want more worker rights in Somalia, it's absent. I want economist working out cost of living and property index and setting salaries that reflect that so we can have middle class develop buying homes
6. I am pro taxes across the board in the economy not less taxes
7. Health/education is probably my last on my bucket list but it could be first issue if other policies are achieved in Somalia.
