Somali Christian Song : "Ciise Wuu Soo Noqoniya" πŸ˜‚

What I want to know is this, is the Christianity in North-West Somalia, a remnant of ancient Christianity, or something brought by the Christian missionaries that had churches in that region a long time ago.

This community even has their own church in Toronto.
There might have been some somali Christians before we became Muslim. But the current somali Christianity thing is because of the colonialist Europeans

he is making up the song on the spot lmao

He is, it gets better with every watch.

:stressed: I know Somali Christians. Even ones that celebrate Eidmas. As they are mixed race like Edna. It is too confusing. May they be guided back. Most were Catholic so I doubt there was some medieval Copt like Christianity that you see in the Nubians among Somalis. I have not come across a strong presence in Somalia. Not like in other places.

I heard Catholics were operating in North-West since the 1800s, that could explain why these Somali-Christians claim their grandparents were Christian, but maybe not their great-grandparents.

Good point about it not being medieval christianity @Sophisticate

The British converted a small number Somalis (mainly Children) in Berbera and Aden. Those would be the generation of Edna’s mother, and the famous Christian leader within the SNM-something Kootaali.

If you’ve heard the famous story about Sayid Muhammad becoming infuriated when he asked some Somali boys about their clan and they responded β€œreer faadar”, there is an element of truth to it-read this:

The article also briefly mentions the harrowing consequences of Menelik’s invasion on Somalis, who were also dealing with colonialism at the same time.

I think some missionaries converted orphans in the recent past. Staunchly Muslim Somali adults would not be as accepting. The colonials tried to mass convert but were largely unsuccessful. Anyway, these Catholics seem the most likely to proselytize. Unlike the Habeshi Christians who were more insular for the most part and less inclined to push the envelope. Add to that the history of wars.
What's she mixed with?
Half Cisse Musa and half Arap.

Those old school Somali Christians are a result of missionaries converting orphans back in the colonial era. Most have reverted to Islam but some remained Christian and raised their descendants Christians

There’s some ex Muslim Somalis in the diaspora who converted to Christianity though which I find crazy as hell though, lmao
