I bought a 2000 prelude in grade 12. Shit was ok on gas but i had to fix the timing belt which was going to cost me a grand so i sold it and i was moving out for uni anyways. I still kinda miss it though

Timing belt for a grand??
I changed my timing belt on my own in high school (at a friends dads shop) I changed valve timing to close exhaust valves faster and effectively have smaller pistons. Saved me gas but shitty acceleration.

It’s extremely involved that’s true. And you need a shop and tools and basic knowhow. But it does NOT cost a thousand. It’s a laborious process so $ 350.00 would be a fair price if you didn’t have a shop and tools.
