Somali businessmen harassed in Ankara

Many Somalis are ready to invest back home, but the lack of security is putting them off. A complete security overhaul should be the top priority of this new government.

U will be shocked how many foreigners are reaping heavy after taking the risk to invest. Time Somalis should wake up before they are ejacted from their country..

I was in Turkey earlier this year, Somalis are well liked.

However, the opposition party supporters see Somalia as an example of Erdogan’s focus on influence overseas rather than the issues in Turkey.

So Somalis are an easy target for their anger.

But if you go around Istanbul and ask the average Turk, they have nothing bad to say. Many say that Somalis coming from Europe have helped Turkey bring in necessary foreign currency.

Also when it comes migrant groups, Somalis stand out in Turkey due to our different appearance but we’re not that big.

Central Asians, Arabs and Russians have bigger communities than Somalia in Turkey.

Most of these communities also live in working class neighbourhoods and work in the tourism industry, meaning they compete with Turks.

Somalis live in middle class suburbs and either study, run businesses that cater to Somalis or Somalia.

Ethiopians are there and so are the West Africans.

But Somalis are there in much larger numbers. If you go to any tourist or upscale place in Istanbul, you’re going to bump into Somalis.
