SOMALI ACCENTS

I think southern accents are more light hearted, when they speak you can tell they're calm people and it's cause of the environment. I remember my eedo came to visit us in Hargeisa and she would stressed words differently it was really funny. I'd especially laugh when she would say "ehhh see waaye?" "ma uu jeedidoo?" "mooho?" :icon lol:
same situation except they came from hargeysa and would speak funny, it was a whole thing to us

Southern people are more sarcastic and sneaky. They will laugh while insulting you and make it seem like they were only joking.

Sexy AF-- reer Bari and Mudug
Ugliest-- afmay may
Rudest/off putting/--reer waqooyi- it sounds like they're always angry for no apparent reason.
Weirdest-- Qabri bayax folks, it's a mix of waqooyi and Habeshas who learned how to speak afsomali
Feminine/ ass-- Reer xamar.

They are not accents, they are dialects. Always found it strange how such a small number people who have been marrying and mingling with each other for so long could have different dialects.

btw, may may is not the worst or ugly. yall just don't understand it.

The Somali language is 3000 years old, there are bound to be regional differences.

3000? Are you sure?
How far do you have to go back for it to stop being Somali and start being another unintelligible language?

Yes true. It's interesting tho. because we were very small in numbers during those times. We werent even 3 million when we got our independence. I always imagined difference in dialects come about when a population grows, and a good portion of a group don't mingle that much with another.

I love Southern accents, they're so funny and nice to hear. But honestly, the accents in gobalada dhexe & Mudug are the best.

I still have a slight waqooyi accent, but my Somali is all over the place now. I've picked up on all sorts of accents/dialects.

Southern - bit bland and too naac naac
Af may may - too foreign
Central (Mudug) - standard Somali - calm and clear

I have similar accent to this guy (Dr Gaboose) . A standard Somali with a bit of waqooyi in the mix
