Some of them are Swahili-like though, certainly that chubby guy with the soft voice that said he liked America.

It hasn't really belonged to Yemen historically, as far as I know. If I'm not mistaken, it's mostly been independent. The island, historically speaking, is worthless. It was only ever good for things like fishing and pasture. Why on Earth would Geeljires move from Somaliweyn to a smaller, poorer Somaliweyn to do the same things they do on Somaliweyn? Especially considering that the group of Somalis taken to seafaring were usually townspeople who'd abandoned their past pastoral and farmer way of life for fishing and merchantry. Logic would point to going to places like Yemen, Oman and Southeastern Africa instead which we know they did. Even Yemenis barely colonized the island until the early modern era with most of its inhabitants being the native Soqotri who seem to have migrated there well over a millennia ago. Nowadays the island is useful for tourism and just an overall strategic maritime placement but it's otherwise not much.
Not surprising. Some will also say Somalia in Saudi Arabia or in UAE or Lebanon or wherever of countries they don't like. It's hilarious because Somalis will mostly say Ayrab nations if they're asked which country the like. So embarassing.

I thought socotris were closely related to some ethnicities from Somalia. Why do they hate us ?
