So who are the folks getting into divorces in the diaspora?

All right you guys so I got a question about the divorce rate in our community. Who exactly is getting into these divorces??

Most of gen Z is still in school and the older ones are just now starting to enter the workforce. Most of this gen is single.

The millennials have been in the workforce for a while and I haven't really heard about any struggling with divorce. This might be because I don't live around a huge amount of somalis. Most of the millennials I know IRL that have gotten married haven't gotten in a divorce.

When I was young I did meet a few single mothers but most of the Somali households I've been to were two parent households.

So are the millennial diaspora struggling with divorce? Or is it more of an issue for the older gens?

Also how have the fobs been contributing to the divorce rate in our community?

Hearing about all these divorces we supposedly have pisses me off low-key. I'm mainly focused on the diaspora. Not the niggas back home.

I'm a late 90's millennial I haven't been divorced yet, I never got married, I moved out in my early 20's, just been career-focused, and was close to getting engaged to this girl, then COVID happened.

Question about your cousin: was he financially stable and educated before he got married. I haven't really heard about any educated Farahs dealing with divorces. All the gen X ones I know with degrees have been happily married.

My parents were part of the gen of somalis that came her as teens in the early 90s and late 80s. I believe they were part of Gen X.

Ah I see, the parents in my area were either boomers or older Gen X that were close in age to boomers. Most of my close relatives came to America in the 80s with a decent amount who came in the 70s

Also it wasn’t uncommon for a household to have at least one parent who was college educated in our diaspora. Most families were either middle class like my family, or upper middle class so maybe you have a point about wealthier parents being less likely to divorce

I only ever considered fob women to be from the boomer generation and was super averse to them when I was younger but now that I see fob women my age I really see the appeal. They’ve mastered the craft of femininity, from the way they talk to the way they walk, oh god the way they sway their hips is majestic. You really don’t know what you’re missing, maybe it’s the kindness that gets me, or how they’re so good with kids even if they don’t have any.

They don’t even have to be fully fob, semi-fobs (somewhat ingrained into western culture and have lived here for at least 4-5 years) are probably the best option for us western Somali men.

No offense to truck drivers but it's low-key understandable. Them niggas are barely home and have a horrendous reputation for cheating.

My best friend was a trucker for a bit. Bro was talking to 3 Chicks at the same time across the country.
