I follow Somali politics closely whatever goes on in Xamar concerns us as well, yk if SL was its own country I would literally not give a shit about Somalia but sadly were shackled to FGS

They don't need to control the rest of Somalia, they just need to claim to be the only legitimate Somalia, and keep the rest in chaos. Literally speaking they have been screwing themselves over trying to be "special" when all they had to do was say "We are somalia" and prevent any strong entity from forming in the South, which would be easy with the new funds they get by being a real country.

FGS is considered a legitimate government(by the UN) despite not controlling 90% of Somalia's territory.

To be legitimate they would have to have controlled the capital (Mogadishu) which was a no no. Why else do you think Abdullahi Yusuf tried to hard to take Mogadishu at all costs despite having a partially internationally recognized government in the TFG?

They just need to say that "the difficult situation in the South prevents us from controlling Mogadishu", send in an AU mission, and bribe a clan milita(probably Hawiye) to do the dirty work for you. Easy.

If bribing the Hawiye worked that easily they would have gotten recognition ages ago.

The fact of the matter is that any attempt to be seen as the legitimate Somalia has to include controlling Mogadishu, which is why it took until 2012 for the FGS to be formed, everything prior to that was focused on taking Mogadishu.

They aren't bribing an established government. They are bribing the clan itself to rule on it's behalf. They would do such a scummy thing if they had the foresight to realize they would be stuck in this quagmire of not being able to recognized because it sets a bad precedence.

With what money? Somaliland was broke in the 90s, they certainly did not have the funds and would be too busy with internal affairs. Then there is the fact that Aideed and Mahdi who both controlled Mogadishu/koonfur both wanted to be president of Somalia. So Somaliland would miraculously have to have a ton of money + be able to stop the UN, AU and Arab League from not backing Mahdi.
