SL Rebels in Hargeisa are engaging in dangerous VHF interference with flights passing over northwest Somalia

It’s not delusion but bad governance. Hassan saved you guys from farmaajo, who is the one that took your airspace, and now your betraying him. 💀

We don't care about Farmaajo or Hassan Sheikh. We don't want to be a part of Somalia. The only negotiation is the terms of independence and some other issues of cooperation. If you want more you need to fight us for it.

You’re not Somali bro.

The fact that you care about your airspace, means you care. Farmaajo owned you guys as a belonging. While Hassan speaks with you guys.

1. Yes. No. Maybe. I don't know.

2. We want Somaliland independence. That means control over airspace.

3. Farmaajo and HSM are no different. Neither is a real threat, neither of them stick to past agreements and neither of them is offering independence.

If Somalia did this the reaction would be: 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

But because Somaliland did it: Oh no stop the madmens.
I think you are a little confused here. The two situations are not the same. Somalia is an internationally recognized state that is in control of this airspace, while SNM is nothing more than a separatist rebel militia that operates in a portion of Somalia's territory. If SNM interferes in Somalia's airspace, then this is considered air piracy according to international law, no different than if Al Shabaab tried to interfere with Somalia's airspace because of its claim of independence from the Somali government.

Next step follow the agreements you signed with the rebel militia about Air Traffic Control.

If this is true, then SL has shot itself in the foot. With one single move they are potentially erasing all goodwill currency from foreigners’ who were sympathetic to the cause of SL and hampers their ability to show that support openly, especially if a civilian plane crashes as a result of jamming or sabotage, which would be instant global headlines for the wrong reasons.

The international rules based order will see these actions as the aviation equivalent of what the Houthis are doing in the Red Sea. This would be like the FGS turning away ships from Puntland’s ports and Deni irrationally responding by threatening all maritime traffic in the Gulf of Aden by jamming maritime radar.

It’s like Muse Bihi is a centralist at heart the way he is pushing the FGS towards that direction. If all planes are ordered to land in Mogadishu prior to their end journey to Hargeisa, that would be a major loss of autonomy for SL, a total blockade by the SCAA would be even more devastating. Whoever came up with this tactic needs to go back to the drawing board. It’s stupid.

I think the eventual set up might look something like this:

The airspace of over Northern Cypress has been disputed since 1974. The Turkish Cypriots set up their own unoffical area called the Ercan Advisory Area. This area is not recognized by the ICAO as a controlling station. This arrangement is considered hazardous and has led to ATC related incidents in the past. This siutation is made worse by the fact Ankara area control centre and Nicosia area control centre do not communicate.

The procedure pilots follow when flying through this region:

Other issues in this airspace also include GPS jamming:
