Siyad Barre The Most Divisive Man In Modern Somalia

I don’t mind a strong and stable FGS. If anything you’re the constant mucaarad, whenever you aren’t on the kursi you do this BLM tingView attachment 255395
MJ have been mucaarad since AY. What we opposed was the return of dictatorship and dont tell me you look down on peaceful opposition? I personally supported Farmaajo for over two years.

Interesting claims, so you oppose Deni not signing the bill that gives us strong FGS?

This might be controversial but no president could have saved somalia from civil war, it is due to our culture not who is in power. Nomads who spent their entire history fighting against each other won’t be able to build a stable nation state. The European colonialists actually were the first ones to bring peace to the warring nomads for the first time in history. Before that, it was constantly clan wars every year.

The feather on their head celebrated that they killed another Somali Muslim. I mean, how do put all these people together in a country, leave them alone and expect them not to revert to that?

Eh, I supported Farmaajo for awhile as well, but I soured on him when he gave up Qalbidhagax.

I unequivocally support Deni not signing that particular bill because it would’ve legitimized Sool and Sanaag as belonging to SL which has until now been disputed legally.

I’d support any group of Somalis, whether they be Hariin or Hiraab, against Somalidiids.

you can never take hutu serious they praise aidiid who only looted and destroyed the country.
The biggest looter in Somali history was Barre. When he was booted out of Mog he took our gold reserves and foreign currencies with him. This could have been used to rebuild the country

Barre inherited a stable country on a good path. The good he brought was because the mindset of the Somali people was different back then. We had a sense of national pride and nationalism. He inherited a country where it’s citizens would die for their people and turned it into a country where some citizens were considered superior to others. Somalinimo both peaked and died when barre was in power

The way I see it his biggest mistake which lead to his downfall, and I say this sincerely, was making an enemy out of Hawiye (especially abgaal) and using Darood to do so. He created a rift between the 2 most politically relevant tribes in the country and left them to fight it out. There is no doubt in my mind that if Barre had not made an enemy out of Hawiye he would have not been overthrown and would have eventually subdued Isaaq and MJ.

A marehan guy that used to be one of barres advisor talked to my dad about Barres war against abgaal where he armed a minority darood group (Galgale) living amongst us to genocide the abgaal tribe. He asked Barre “Why support Galgale who are 6,000 over Abgaal who are 6 million” and advised him to stop the genocide. Barre refused and the marehan guy left Somalia as he knew what Barres policies would lead to. He was correct, somalia is now dead.

Couldn’t get thru all the caalal from hutus n idoors. This are all kids from the diaspora who cant nor want to move back what a mockery they make out off themself, to critize siyad barre when ur parents lived there under him but fleed when their WARLORDS from their qabiil took over. Sooco move back rn if Somalia is better live what u preach your awoowe wasnt milkin the welfare in the west.

Go back to Somalia nearly all their boys teens girls from their own clan want to tahriib funniest thing is the only clan ik back home who hates siyad barre is isaaq but everyone else back home love him since they been livin in misery for 30+ yrs the diaspora kids wont understand since theyve had a soft life in the west meanwhile average Somali in the South been thru alot.

I agree with you to some degree, He shouldn't of Waged War on the Hawiye Abgaal, and then later on HG,MJ,ISSAQ, He Always Sided with His Clan, My uncle told me when he was getting married in 85/86, The Marehan Clan had a fight with the HG/Suleiman the fight started like how all fights start " pastoralist " always fight over "access to water and grazing land" and again Barre sided with his Marehan Clansmen, He also attacked the ISSAQ, MJ ect.

My Dislikes : 1. Barre Government was full of repression and Human Rights Abuse
2. He Did not Unify the Country instead took sides and attacked Clans
3. He made statements against the Religion " I wish he never spoke on it and stayed away from the topic". After he made his Statements " Islamic Inherencies law, Rights of Men and Women, ECT", Then he faced Backlash from a lot of " Islamic Elders" instead of calming down the situation he executed 10 Prominent Scholars in Jan 1975
4. Destruction of SNA alot of Strong/Smart/Young men from all Clans were sent to war and died I wish we never got involved in the Ogadine War in 1977, it Ruined our Army and Economy.

My Likes : 1 .He Promoted Pan African and African Unity " South Africa, Ect"
2. Health Care " Building Hospitals Everywhere,"
3. Economic Development 'Diversify Somali Economy from Agriculture "
4. Infrastructure, Construction of Roads, bridges, Airports, Seaports, Which helped improve Transportation and connectivity within the Country.
5. Education Barre Made education a priority and expanded and introduced a new education system that emphasized Science and Technology. He sent more than 50,000 students " My Dad's Brother being one of them" to go to the poorest areas of Somalia and Teach Somali, Maths ect under a nationwide census and literacy and health campaign. It was through this aggressive approach why Somalia became one of the most Educated Countries in Africa by The Late 70's early 80s.
6. Established State Owned Enterprises " Somali Airlines, Somali National Bank"
7. Promoted a Strong Sense of Somali Nationalism and pushed to Unify the Somali speaking people of the Horn of Africa through his " Greater Somalia Policies"

He wasn't Perfect but he tried the Best way we as a Somali People can Move Forward and Build is to Forgive Him and those that came after him, its only through that may we able to move forward and build our Nation.

AUN Siyaad Barre

Excellent take brother, however I will correct you on 2 points. The economy was good up until 1982. The true economical damage of the war wasn't felt for awhile for some reason. He also promoted "Pan Africanism" for strategical purposes, it didn't work in the long run as no African state support WSLF and they all sided with Ethiopia. As @GemState pointed it, he was a Somali supremist, I have no doubt he was actually a ethno-nationalist.

Everything else you said is correct.

  • Barre took over in a military coup in 1969.
  • He ruled for over two decades until he was ousted in 1991.
  • He died in 1995.
  • It has been over 30 years since he was removed from power.
  • As of 2023, it has been 54 years since 1969.
  • PEOPLE STILL MAKING THREADS UNREAL
