Taiwan and China’s issue is that both of them consider themselves as the rightful leaders of a united China.

The CCP believe that they are rightful leaders of Taiwan and China.

Taiwan believe that they are rightful leaders of Taiwan and China.

So the One China policy is a comprise, as both parties believe that one entity should control both China and Taiwan, they just disagree on who.

Whereas with SL and Somalia, SL has no intention of ruling over the rest of Somalia but Somalia does intend to rule SL.

But what I mean is what if America has a direct and robust de facto relationship with SL in the same mould of US - Taiwan ties despite nominally recognising Somali unity? I don't think our federal government will take kindly to this arrangement

The reason they have robust ties with both the PRC and Taiwan is because of two reasons:

1. Taiwan sees itself as the legitimate government of China and Taiwan, seeing themselves as the democratic capitalist opposition, something the US loves.

2. Taiwan inherently offers something to the US of value. Technology, manufacturing, strategic position in probably the most strategic area of the world (Asia-Pacific).

SL does not see themselves as the opposition to the FGS and they don’t anything particularly of substance to the US.

As a genuine unionist, would you prefer if Somaliland joins back the union the regions should be based on that? this would mean Modern day Sool and Sanaag won't exist and will be under the regional administration of Burco.

Awdal won't exist as it will be under the Hargeisa regional administration.

The North was underrepresented in 1960s so that cant be allowed again. How about this in 1960s there were 6 provinces in Somalia Italiana the 2 provinces ofAlta/Basso Giuba with largely mixed/minority/Maay speaker populations, 3 provinces with a majority from 1 community aka Mudug, Hiiraan, Benaadir, and the province of Migiurtinia but today the community who had 3/6 provinces in Soomalia Italiana have 2/5 FMS and their 2 FMS have fewer seats than PL/JL and they get zero seats for Benaadir which has higher population than PL/JL.

That would worry me more if Im from Somaalia Italiana because that situation could explode into another Caydiid like figure trying to correct errors. Whether youre reerBenaadir/GM/HS or not you have to realize the Benaadir situation is untenable unless the SFG guarantees presidency to someone with communal loyalties from Benaadir

Im strongly critical of isolationist ictiraafists but Somaalia italiana residents should focus on fixing the SFG 1st. The error from 1960 will be corrected when JSL/SFG reunite but 1st there has to be a functional SFG that doesnt face the threat of insurrection because Benaadir lacks representation
